BURN SUBTITLES INTO FILES

Post by ELCID64 »

I get the subs from opensubtitles but they are added to the files as a sub file. I want to burn the subs into the files. What am I doing wrong? this is an amateur newby. Thank you for any help.

Short answer: you can't.

Long answer: you shouldn't, but there's other tools (different tools for different container formats) that can help you with that, some by simply muxing the subtitle file into the video file container, some by re-encoding the video file and "burning" the subtitle onto each frame.

FileBot simply organizes the filenames for you; it doesn't do anything to the files themselves.

There are lots of (free & paid) tools that will help you with that, though.
Videohelp is a great resource (https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/364 ... h-VidCoder).

As an avid subtitle burner myself, be careful when combining subs with video, as the subtitle files aren't always going to match timecodes with the video you have (some shows/movies have 'extended' versions but you might have the 'regular' version subtitles - so they'll quickly get out of sync.
Subtitle Edit (http://www.nikse.dk/subtitleedit) is a great program to help get things sync'd before you spend the time muxing them together.

subtitles burned in the file has 2 types :
hard sub : where sub is a part of the picture [frames]
soft sub : where sub is a part of the file but not the picture [can be shown or hidden as u wish]
i prefer soft subs

this is how u create a soft sub

* make sure the subtitles and the video are synced
* programs needed MKVToolNix & K lite mega codec pack
google them for links

This is what a file looks like when the subtitle is external , using K lite mega codec pack
Image

to convert the external sub into embedded soft sub
drag and drop the video file & the matching sub file into MKVToolNix

when this window appear select ok

Choose save location and u r good to go, it takes only seconds
