4K Scaling Workaround for Win 10

Post by Vanarchy »

4k Scaling problem work around Win10, 64 bit everything (win, java, filebot)
(Use if filebot screen is too small to read on a 4k TV, or if the fonts are scrunched half size and unreadable)

Image

*This makes the filebot program big (bigger than other programs) and fonts readable.*

Use filebot.platform.launcher.exe (The other filebot shortcuts dont seem to work with the below method)

Check - Override high DPI scaling behavior and choose type SYSTEM.

Leave all the rest unchecked, dont use compatibility mode.(You may break drag n drop feature if you use compatibility mode XP, 7,8, etc)

This makes the filebot program big (bigger than other programs) and fonts readable.

Thanks for sharing the workaround.

Full HiDPI support on Windows will come in the Summer with the release of Java 9.

This workaround does not seem to work for filebot from Windows Store since there is no exe files to be found anywhere. Also, right clicking on tile does not give option to "find in folder".

If there's a place to modify settings I havent found it (yet)

FileBot on the Windows Store is bundled with it's own private JRE which is currently Java 8 because Java 9 hasn't been released yet. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about that right now, but some future update after the release of Java 9 will finally fix things for high resolution screens.

Looks like 9 comes out in a couple weeks. So hopefully by autumn....

Any update on this? I've recently upgraded all my kit to 4K and Filebot doesn't look pretty anymore :(

Googling Java 9 seems to say that it became available in September sometime, although checking for updates in my installed JRE still has it sitting at version 8 update 151.

Yes and no. Java 9 has been released, but it doesn't work in the APPX sandbox. So FileBot is stuck with Java 8 until this bug in the JDK is fixed. Unfortunately, there's no timeline for that. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe next year.

EDIT:

Please PM me your Microsoft Account and Google Account email. I'll see if I can make a private release available to you for testing.

Same problem here. The GUI is unusable on my 1440p and 4k monitors :(

Unfortunately, due to issues with APPX sandboxing and Java 9 / Windows COM interprocess communication, FileBot won't be able to support HiDPI until Microsoft and/or Oracle address the issue (which may not be anytime soon).

For advanced users, there's ways to make things work manually, but there's no easy out-of-the-box solution without caveats. :(

FileBot 4.7.19 is now available in the Microsoft Store and bundled with JDK 9 for proper HiDPI support on Windows 10.

I have the scaling issue here on Windows 10, I can't see the text on Filebot. I have the latest release from Windows store.

I changed the sceling from 150 to 100 and it didn't fix it.

I changed the scaling back from 100 to 150 and its fine.

If I exit filebot and go back in, the scaling issue returns.
