Extension Errors

Post by meites »

I'm having issues with the current update which won't preserve the file extensions. (Settings set to: preserve extensions) but on rename has the error screen looking for file edits to complete. https://a.cl.ly/Jruq8ejJ

How can this be fixed..

Please provide 1 example file path for testing. Since this is not a commonly reported issue, we can conclude that it's specific to your use case or configuration.

Try creating a file called Avatar.mp4 on your Desktop and then rename it in place. See if that works. That must work. Once that is confirmed to work, the next step is to figure out what makes it not work. Since it generally works for everyone else, you'll need to do some systematic trial & error testing until you find out what specifically makes it not work in your specific situation.

EDIT:

Post Mortem: User had existing folders named Avatar (2009).mp4. The prior existence of the destination path prevented files from being moved. The existing destination path being a folder named as if it was a file triggered misleading error messages.
