[32-bit Windows 10] Java Runtime Environment missing or corrupted

Filebot stopped working 2 days ago and I've been unable to find a solution.

When I try to start I get the message ... "This application was configured to use a bundled Java Runtime Evironment but the runtime is missing or corrupted." (This is also the same message if I run Filebot from a command line)

I'm on windows 10, system is running all updates, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Fileboat several times, I'm using the verson from the microsoft store.

Its very frustrating and I'm out of options. Anyone have any clues why this is happening and how to fix it?

I've tried installing uninstalling reinstalling repairing resetting on Windows 10 32bit paid filebot version from microsoft store and get the same error as above today computer up to date installed latest jave still error message the same
free portable version still working

The Microsoft Store version includes it's own JRE so the Java you may or may not have installed on your machine is irrelevant.

I can't reproduce the issue, and it passed Microsoft review, so there might be something odd on your machine. What exactly that might be is anyones guess. If you're running 32-bit Windows, maybe it's just really really old hardware that's failing? Can't say for sure.

If you do a clean install of 64-bit Windows it'll probably work. If you're stuck with the machine as it is and don't want to reinstall your OS, then it's best to just ask Microsoft for a refund though, and use the classic installer package / license system instead, though that's 64-bit only.

Just some further details .....

I'm running 32 not 64 bit win10
I don't have Java installed as I know the installer has its own in the bundle
Unsure why you would think its hardware - surely its software related
Its worked really well for a month but suddenly stopped 2 nights ago
I'm suspecting a win10 update is the culprit - a major was just released by Microsoft

Did you notice that another user on 32bit has had the same problem - expect more users with problems

32-bit is pretty rare this days. Can you give me more information about your system?

Since the error message says "JRE is missing" (though this could easily be a wrong misleading message) it's worth while to check in the (hidden & protected) WindowsApps folder and check if the FileBot app folder is everything looks in order. There should be a jre folder with everything.

Yep, as expected, everything seems to be in place, so the error message is probably misleading to some degree. Do you have a another 32-bit machine you could do a fresh install on to see if it works then?

The Windows Store and Windows internals used for virtualization might be a bit buggy on 32-bit as Microsoft probably doesn't have many people working or testing with that, so obscure errors are likely an hard to deal with. Still worth a try to see if it works on a clean Windows install.

When did you update the windows store with 4.8.2.0. ?
Our PC's are auto updating from the windows store and we've all had problems same day.
Could their be a problem with your build?

If we can't get this sorted where can I get my licence purchased through the windows store so I can run a current portable version with full Java (I noted you discussed this on your 4.8.2 beta blog)

FileBot 4.8.3 is available in the Microsoft Store now and should resolve the 32-bit Windows 10 issues reported here. You can click Get Updates if it doesn't show up right away.

Unfortunately, Microsoft Store licenses cannot be converted or transferred to the Mac App Store or my own universal license system. Also, 32-bit Windows is completely unsupported and untested as far as the non-Store version is concerned.

I'm curious though, how come you guys are using 32-bit Windows? What are the reasons these days? I'm indeed very very surprised there's 32-bit Windows 10 users at all at this point. The only reason I newly added x86 binaries with the recent release is because the new Windows 10 machines with ARM processors can run x86 binaries via binary translation.

i own 32 bit windows because that was my windows 10 upgrade path from windows 7 and my old capture cards don't have 64 bit drivers plus i own tons of 32 bit programs

Its a great program and you miss it when its not working

Next rebuild I'll be going to 64bit but its a chore and can wait for now on my MPC
