Filebot needs ages to startup & to react to user input

Post by trigger2k20 »

Hi,

i have two mac mini (Mid 2010 + High Sierra) with File Bot -Version 4.9.6 (9125)- installed. One works fine the reaction time is fast. On the other filebot, needs ages (1/2 minute) startup & to react to unser input. I tried everything, installing java, reinstalling File Bot but i cannot resolve this

Any help appriciated, :D

Code: Select all

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class net.filebot.archive.Archive$Extractor
That error would be very unusual. It doesn't say much, but could possibly indicate that FileBot wasn't able to read it's own application files.

My best guess is that the HDD is slow, or busy doing other things. FileBot is a relatively large application, so high I/O latency will affect FileBot more than other applications at startup. If your Mac still has a spinning disk, then replacing that with an SSD (and reinstalling the OS) will probably breath new life into that hardware.

Hi rednoah,
thanks for the suggestion but the mac mini has a SSD like the second mac mini where Filebot works like a charm. How can i check and solve this: FileBot wasn't able to read it's own application files ?

Second question how can backup my settings and erase FB totally, beside the /userdirectory/.filebot ?

Thanks

Try running filebot -script fn:sysinfo on the command-line a few times and see if you get the same error message every time.

Presumably, you have already checked the Activity Monitor to confirm if the system is under high load for one reason or another? In any case, the issue is likely other software running on your machine, and reinstalling FileBot is unlikely to make a difference.

You can delete FileBot by deleting /Applications/FileBot.app. ~/.filebot is for application data files, caches, etc. Your preferences are stored by macOS in some standard location, maybe ~/Library/Preferences/.

You can backup your user data like so:

Hi,
my answers:
Try running filebot -script fn:sysinfo on the command-line a few times and see if you get the same error message every time.
-> not i am not getting an error anymoree
Presumably, you have already checked the Activity Monitor to confirm if the system is under high load for one reason or another? In any case, the issue is likely other software running on your machine, and reinstalling FileBot is unlikely to make a difference.
-> i run filebot as sole app, the system is 90% inactive but what i see when interacting with filebot the the program is not responding (the name is getting red). What i see i click around in the main menu (rename, episodes, subtitles etc.) that the inital load takes long but then the switching is normal.
You can delete FileBot by deleting /Applications/FileBot.app. ~/.filebot is for application data files, caches, etc. Your preferences are stored by macOS in some standard location, maybe ~/Library/Preferences/. -> i erased the program & /userdirectory/.filebot & and wht i did find with filebot.
But when i installed the app new all my presets where still available so i assume i missed something - where are these presets saved ?

But nothing helps, actually i take 1 minute to have a reaction. As said on the second server everythings works fine. :-(

Thanks for any help !

 The intermittent I/O errors and the general "slow when loading from disk, fast when running in memory" suggest an underlying disk / hardware issue. If you've been using this SSD for heavy read/write for a decade then it might be wearing out. You'll have to Google "slow ssd" and then follow all the leads. There are many possible explanations. Maybe you will find something. Please report back if you find anything interesting.

 If you're only running FileBot (i.e. the only large application you have tested on this machine) then that further suggests that it's a general system issue, and not an issue specific to FileBot.

 macOS probably stores your preferences in the ~/Library/Preferences folder:

Code: Select all

$ find ~/Library/Preferences | grep filebot
~/Library/Preferences/net.filebot.ui.plist

Hello,
i think i got the cause, it looks like a filsystem error: Change Directory /net (which is used by net.filebot.ui.plist) takes ages on the affected machine vs. the scond mac mini. Runnning a first aid reveals fs error, so - after a search through forums - i will do the oldes fix in it: install the os new.
