Won't launch since upgrading to Sierra

Post by neutra »

Getting this message upon launch (tried deleting and re-installing)

Internal Error: "An uncaught exception was raised..." with "Show Details" "Crash" and "Continue" buttons.
Pressing Continue keeps bringing back that same window.

Re: Won't launch since upgrading to Sierra

Post by rednoah »

Thanks for the logs. Looks like it might be a tricky issue though.

EDIT:

I've only found obscure references for issues that may or may not be similar to this one:
https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8155921

Are you using some sort of special non-latin input method? e.g. something like pinyin or wubi input?

EDIT 2:

I've upgraded to Sierra as well and it's working just fine here. This is probably an isolated issue on your machine... for some reason.

Not that I know of. It was working perfectly before I upgraded to Sierra. Should I try deleting all prefs and support files and then re-install?

I don't think that that'll help. But I don't have a better idea. Try everything you can think of and if something works please let us know. ;)

The App Store is a mysterious beast. Just accepting the TOS seems to work around some issues:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4135#p23281

I've sent a bug report to Apple as well. Just in case they actually look at them.

EDIT:

One thing that strikes me as strange is the path /Applications/FileBot.localized/FileBot.app because it should be /Applications/FileBot.app if you have installed it via the app store.

It definitely has to do with Java. I uninstalled FileBot AND Java (the one from Oracle; not Apple). Reinstalled the Apple Java and FileBot and it seemed to be fixed. That lasted a few days but now it's doing the same thing as before.

If you install FileBot from the App Store then it'll come with it's own JRE. It will definitely not use any Oracle / Apple JRE that may or may not be installed, so that's definitely not the source of the issue.

 Why is there a FileBot.localized folder? I've never seen that before.
