[Linux] Ubuntu Software Center VS Debian Package

Post by rednoah »

If you want to support FileBot you can buy FileBot from the Ubuntu Software Center. But what is the difference between the paid Ubuntu package from the Software Center and the generic Linux (.deb) package? The Ubuntu package is optimized for Ubuntu specifically, while the generic Linux package is optimized for compatibility with all Linux configurations.

Ubuntu Software Center package:
  • Latest JRE is included
  • Automatic updates
  • Support for GVFS is enabled (so you can drag remote/shared files from File Manager directly into FileBot)
  • Uses the system file/directory dialogs
  • Uses the system proxy settings
  • Help support FileBot and Ubuntu by paying money. No donation reminders.

Generic Linux package:
  • Latest JRE is not included and must be installed manually
  • No automatic updates
  • Support for GVFS is disabled
  • Uses cross-platform file/directory dialogs
  • Does not use system proxy settings
  • May occasionally ask for a donation
