FAKE New 'File bot' that's available on windows Store.

Post by n4ken »

This is what you find if you search 'filebot' on the windows store.
Filebot as we all know and love.
and this new 'File Bot - Intelligent software For FFmpg' claiming to be 'FileAutoName'

It's published by 'InternetOfThingsDev', released 05/06/2018 and is 439.73 MB in soze which is quite large!
Apart from the usual splurge trying to sell it I can find no other info.

I'm surprised by the use of the same name especially on windows Store.
What's it all about and is it really needed. Is it connected in any way with classic Filebot?
Classic does everything I need and is constantly updated so is this new comer trying to use the good
name and reputation to sell?

It's clearly a fake copy. DO NOT PURCHASE OR INSTALL IT. They're gaming the Store by writing fake reviews and having unexpected users buy their crap apps that are just copied from GitHub and probably don't even work, any maybe steal your personal information, because why wouldn't they?

They have a couple of fake apps in the Windows Store:

Doesn't look like they're very successful with their Fake FileBot, because FileBot users are not stupid, but reading the reviews for DVD Player - Fast Player for VLC and free trial (which is neither free nor a trial) is horrifying because Microsoft has clearly no standards on the Store at this point, and end-users get fucked over, with no way of getting a refund, and then have very good reason to hate the Store and never use it again:

 I've tried to report this to multiple people at Microsoft, including Legal, and nobody cares, or does anything, or replies to my requests.
