Weird symbols in subtitles

Post by edvahass »

All the subtitles I have downloaded for movies so far look like this:

I've tried VLC, XBMC and even PS3 media server. None seem to work. I'm on a mac if that helps - has anyone seen problems like these before?

Can you tell me what subtitles you're downloading? If you're using the cmdline send me the output.

You could try this:
--lang en
But english is default so it shouldn't make a difference.

--output srt --encoding utf8
This will transcode subtitles downloaded in any format/encoding to UTF-8 encoded .srt files. (Note that if FileBot doesn't correctely auto-detect the original encoding the exported subtitle might be gibberish)

Code: Select all

E:\testdata\300>filebot -get-subtitles . --lang en --output srt --encoding utf8
Looking up subtitles by filehash via OpenSubtitles
Matched [300 (2006).mp4] to [300.2006.1080p.BluRay.DTS.x264-CtrlHD] via filehash
Fetching [300.2006.1080p.BluRay.DTS.x264-CtrlHD.srt]
Export [300.2006.1080p.BluRay.DTS.x264-CtrlHD.srt] as: SubRip / UTF-8
Writing [300.2006.1080p.BluRay.DTS.x264-CtrlHD.srt] to [300 (2006).eng.srt]
Also you can do test to download and preview subtitles in the GUI and see what happens.
