Not sure what happened as this has been working well for me sin May of Last year. I did not realize but this started breaking files that were renamed since 4/9/2025. The renamed file looks normal and the size of the file and the folder where it is being put all looks good. But Windows cannot play the file and plex cannot either. I have tried to look at user access rights in my network attached storage and everything looks ok but the files just get broken. I have no idea what the error I have started to get even means. WARNING: Failed to write xattr key: net.filebot.metadata: Access Denied: I have had changes to my home router. I am unsure if that is related. Everything else seems to be working just fine. I can re-rip the file and use the name that filebot used and manually copy the file and name by overwriting it but this is a hassle and defeats the purpose of adopting filebot. This is my first problem in nearly a year so hopefully it is simple and easy to fix. I also installed the newer version on another PC but it also had the same issue. I don't understand why this is happening. Please let me know.

FileBot does not modify files. If you believe that FileBot did modify your files then I would start by comparing the checksum. You can use the SFV tool in FileBot or any other checksum tool. If the checksum matches before / after processing the file with FileBot then the file has not been modified and thus cannot have been corrupted.

What exactly does cause the file to not be playable? Most likely permissions of some kind. It's always permissions. You may need to do some trial and error testing to narrow down the underlying cause.

Are the not-playable files on a local hard drive or on a remote SMB network share? What software are you using on the server-side?

The issue is most likely not related to your router, unless you happen to be using your router as NAS that serves a SMB share as well.

The Failed to write xattr key warning means that FileBot cannot store xattr metadata for the file at hand. This warning is likely unrelated to the issue at hand. If you're processing files on an FAT32 file system then you will always get this warning since FAT32 does not support this file system feature. You will never get this warning on an NTFS drive since NTFS supports Alternate Data Streams. If it's a SMB network share, then Alternate Data Streams may or may not be supported depending the server-side SMB software being used. You can try to disable xattr metadata if you believe this to be the culprit, unlikely but worth a try.

clear cache seems to have fixed my issue. I will agree it is odd and I couldn't understand it but something wasn't copying over correctly.

The samba_share is run on TrueNAS. It is a ZFS filesystem. It is new to me but has been running for a little over a year. I too think it was permissions but I didn't change the permissions and it is working again. I was copying from one directory and placing it on another but both locations were on the samba_share. On Windows I would just get an error message. I unfortunately didn't save a screenshot. I might can find in the logs somewhere but I find it really weird that clearing the cache seems to have fixed it.

I did read the FAQ and I did try to follow the instructions on how to request help but everything seemed so convoluted. Seems to be working so this can be marked solved. Thank you.

filebot -clear-cache is almost certainly completely unrelated to the issue at hand.

It suddenly stopped working for unknown reasons. It suddenly started working again for unknown reasons. Let's hope it stays that way.
