Would it be possible to get the movies' genres from imdb and update the files' tags with those or the genre tags for files? So that when 2 or 3 genres are listed for a single movie on imdb those can all be included in the files' tags.

Well, you can use {genres} binding, and "updating tags" really comes down to just renaming again.

The {genres} binding is great, but how to get that into the files' tags. such as the Genre tag or the Tags tag. Not in the filename itself. But in the Detail/Properties section of the file.

You can't. Most video formats don't support tags. And the ones that do a little, are not supported by Windows so they won't show in Explorer anyway.

No, they do. I've manually changed the tags in .mp4 files and .avi files to check it they work out. They do. And as most of my video files tend to be those, I thought putting the genre information in tags would be better than trying to sort them into folders, as I could choose to look for whatever combination of genre's I wanted by a simple search or saved search.

Not sure what you define as "tags" but .avi files do not support tags. Are you talking about some Windows feature? Make some screenshots or a video.

Yes, you are right, .avi files do not support tags. but it seems .mp4 and .mov do, I haven't checked for .mkv

I've tested on may Win8 and it doesn't let me set tags on any video files I've tried with.
Also this would be a Windows-only feature, so not that interesting to me.

Oh,
I'm also on Win8, and it's surprising how it's not letting you set tags. Hmm, is it a windows only feature? Hmm, I thought file properties or adding tags to files were there in OSX and Ubuntu too, but it's been a while since I've used them and don't know if it's there. Any Mac/Ubuntu users may confirm whether files/video files have editable tags? If so, rednoah might find it more interesting?

Thanks,

Ah, setting the genres on the filename itself is good enough. Thanks for listening.

Well, you can "edit tags" but it's not gonna edit tags in the file, like ID3 with mp3 files. It's just doing it's own thing, like caching thumbnails, the data you enter in explorer will not be available to programs other than explorer, and probably be lost if you even copy the files to another (esp non-windows) computer.

Yes, now I understand it much more clearly. Thanks, adding genres on the filename is good enough for me.
