long time user, but switching to linux mint means no workie?

filebot has been one of my favorite programs for a while now and i never had any problem with it until recently. now that i have a linux box, i just cannot get it to start without immediately crashing. no error report, nothing, it just has the little clock on the cursor that spins around and then stops.
i have tried installing several versons of it on linux mint using the built in gdebi package installer, and the .deb package for my 64 bit version of mint. each one of them says the dependencies are met, but obviously something is missing or it would at least start.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated, because i have a lot of files to fix and they are piling up...
