snap won't install anything newer than 4.7.9

Today filebot notified me that my 4.7.9 version can be updated to 4.7.19. I've been grabbing .deb files for my Debian (stretch) system from this website in the past but instead of that I find only snaps are available. I'd never heard of snaps. I've been using deb files with dpkg and apt etc for well over 20 years.

After an hour or two of reading up on snap I figured it was worth a try. I installed snapd and ran "snap install hello-world" to test it. I was surprised to find that after installing hello-world I can't simply run "$ hello-world", I have to run "$ snap run hello-world". But I continued...

"snap find filebot" doesn't list anything newer than 4.7.9. A manual search on ubuntu.com doesn't find filebot at all.

I figure I must be close but I have no idea what to try next. I do not have a ubuntu account so I ran everything as root.

Sorry, but Ubuntu has dropped support for paid applications, so I don't really spend much time on supporting FileBot on Linux as far as the GUI is concerned.

I might publish occasional updates in the future, but I currently don't even have access to my Ubuntu build / test VM.

OK, thanks for clearing that up so quickly. I'll stick with 4.7.9 then.

Sorry for the inconvenience. The snap package was developed when Canonical still supported paid snap packages, but they dropped support for that later on, so the package changed to being free, so I shifted my focus to the paid Windows Store version.

I've created a Patreon page so that users on unsupported platforms can vote with their money and support new releases for their favorite platforms:
https://www.patreon.com/filebot

OK, so... what do we do now then?

Donate and then a link to the 4.7.19.deb file?

Sorry, that's not how Patreon works. You pledge a few dollars for every release, and once enough people pledge enough money, then I will push a new release and collect one round of pledges. I recommend supporting the Patreon just to show that there's more than 6 people interested in the Linux version.

The current goal is SNAP and SPK packages, but DEB packages could be included in each release as well.
