Filebot AMC seems to struggle with anime in the SXXEXX format.

Hi rednoah!

Whenever I want to use FileBot to add non-recent anime to my server, I can never seem to get the SXXEXX notation working (e.g. S02E04).
For some reason FileBot seems to always want to grab season 1, and even when I filter with "s == 2" for example, it will simply find no matches.
I want to use the TheTVDB season/episode ordering for my output.

I'm using the latest FileBot 5.0.1, but this issue had been occurring on version 4 as well.
I'm pretty sure I must be doing something wrong, but I can't find out what, so that is why I am reaching out for help here.

I have attached logs of 2 runs: One where I have the files as they originally were, and one where I first renamed them via the Windows FileBot GUI manually by selecting the season myself, and then ran AMC again.

I have absolutely no idea why SXXEXX flat out refuses to work, but then when I use SxEE, it will immediately pick it up. Maybe it could be the episode titles? Or the FileBot GUI run may have done something else that I'm missing?

--def 'ut_label=Anime' and --order Absolute force the amc script to use Absolute Order to interpret your input files, and thus explicitly makes files not work for your normal TV series / SxE numbered input files.



If your files use S00E00 or SxE numbering, then your files are normal TV Shows (and not Anime) for all accounts and purposes. You must use --order Airdate and TV mode if that's what matches your files. You can use --def 'ut_label=TV' to force that. You can also use No Label / Automatic because the amc script will automatically use TV mode for any files with S00E00 / SxE patterns.

I have absolutely no idea why SXXEXX flat out refuses to work, but then when I use SxEE, it will immediately pick it up. Maybe it could be the episode titles? Or the FileBot GUI run may have done something else that I'm missing?

S00E00 or SxE makes no difference. You've added episode titles and xattr metadata so that's most likely what makes things work the second time around, and allows a leap from The Seven Deadly Sins - 4x24 - Heirs (filename) to The Seven Deadly Sins - 96 - Heirs (Absolute Order episode information) which is then formatted back to The Seven Deadly Sins - 4x24 - Heirs via the {order} binding further obscuring the issue at hand.



tl;dr you have S00E00 and want S00E00, so everything works by default, but because you force Absolute Order everything goes awry.

One more question: if my input can randomly be either Absolute or SxE, but I still always want my output to be S00E00, could I remove the ut_label and order altogether, and just define --db TheTVDB, and then AMC will figure it out for me?

Yes, the amc script will switch between TV mode and Anime mode automatically depending on the files at hand, by default, unless specified otherwise.
