I think the issue (which I had initially) is that if I hit OK on the popup, it sends me to a link to download the Java SE JDK. I don't actually need the whole developer kit... the proper link for consumers should be:
http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

It downloads just Java 8 and not the ...
