rednoah,
Due to a long winded list of personal/family related issues, I have been mostly off the internet for the last several weeks. I was informed of a Filebot sale on the windows store for $4.99, that is now expired. Is there anyway to get that price now? I have been out of work for several months. I would love to support your software, but I can’t justify the $20 price tag.

I do volunteer to help clean up my local parks twice a month. Just don’t think it will live up to the standards of a promo code.

Hey Rednoah,

In Australia your app is listed at $29.95 which is a pretty high price point for most consumer software. Will you be charging for each version? Each minor version? Will you be asking people to pay again in 1 year?

It's a one time payment for the lifetime of the application. No charge for version changes nor having to pay again down the line.

I couldn't even charge for upgrades if I wanted to. The Microsoft Store doesn't support that. If you buy FileBot on the Microsoft Store you'll get a lifetime license and updates forever, so the price has to account for that. It works pretty much the same as the App Store on iOS and the Google Play Store.

Oh, okay. On the App Store they get around that by taking down that app and releasing a new version as a seperate app. I hate apps like that, but it happens with a fair few I've had in the past, some of which cost me a lot of money.

I've made contributions to several open source projects, any chance of a promo code?

I won't do that. FileBot is priced accordingly.

I believe I bought Filebot previously, how can I redownload it? Also, I've repeatedly reported to the Microsoft people that Filebot CAN'T BE BOUGHT on the MS Store website. The button isn't clickable there and other software doesn't work either. I've tried buying Adobe products on the Microsoft store and they're not clickable either. I don't know what's up with that...hope you can help me

You'll have to use the Microsoft Store app, not the web browser. If you still can't figure it out, please post a screenshot of what you see.

I've been trying to purchase FileBot, but for some reason I seem to have lost the Windows store app! I'm using Windows 10. I have tried to follow the tutorials how to restore it using powershell, but the store app is just not found.

Do you offer some other method of purchase?

I'm sorry for any possible inconvenience.

You can't "loose" the Windows Store app. Just type "Store" in the Start menu search if you can't find it.

That is strange indeed. Are you using some kind of strange version of Windows?

A Factory Reset would almost certainly fix the problem no matter how screwed up your Windows install is. But that's a last resort.

Just basic W10. I'm not in much need of the store - only use would have been to purchase FileBot, but I will have to do that later.

I love FileBot and find it really helpful in renaming so thank you!

Please bear with me for a second whilst I explain. I was studying to be a teacher when I was 20 and in my first year of University, I had a stroke. Then in my second year, I had another stroke. I developed "acquired dyslexia" which, for an English Literature teacher who wanted to teach English, was not good! I did all my exams though and I got a degree but unfortunately, the government wouldn't let me become a teacher as I didn't have a good health record :-( Since then, I have been in and out of hospital, had loads of medical procedures including major liver surgery and am now under investigation at the Marsden (a major cancer hospital in London) for Fibromatosis. I also have Lupus, Antiphospholipid Syndrome (hence the strokes) and am in chronic pain.

Although I am really rather unwell and on benefits because I can't work, I don't believe that it's fair to use an app/programme like yours for free. If you use it a lot, you donate or buy it. I use yours a lot and whilst I don't do anything as amazing as some of the people on here (all I can say I do is to help train doctors by being a test patient - from research to being a pin-cushion!), I would really like the opportunity to donate to you outside of Windows Store. So if there is a way of doing this, I am happy to give up my cans of Pepsi and donate to you in order to get a licence!

Is there any way that this can be done?

Thank you again for making this!

I have been using FileBot for several years, I used it on my VM and it has Windows 7 on it. When you went to the Windows 10 store version, we were still able to have gotten it from sourceforge. I "think" i donated back then, but I cannot remember. I do know that the message used to say "Thanks for your support". The main reason that I used FileBot was because of the Run Program feature in uTorrent. It works BEAUTIFULLY! But a few weeks ago that all broke. I have thought about getting it for Windows 10, but I use Windows 7. Do you not have a Windows 7 version that would work? I have no problem paying for it, and I would have already if I could use the Windows 10 app on Windows 7.

@rednoah:
This https://www.reddit.com/r/filebot/commen ... u/dvh20hg/ got me here.

First of all, "Price Level 20" is more than a day's work for me... (damn, I need to move...)

But since I use and like your software, I promised myself that if I got to 20000 renamed files I will buy the software... I am at 13000-14000.
I have to confess that I am one of them evil ones who used the app built for older Windows, on Windows 10 (It was really easy to install, to be honest, right click on the installer -> properties, make some changes and that's it.)

Not too long ago you released 4.7.19, and now I get a nag screen every time I start the app. I also knew that 4.7.9 is the last freely available build.
So I went to the store and saw that the app is on 50% sale, so I said to myself that it would be wise to buy (hey, it's just half a day of work) but the only problem is that stupid Microsoft store doesn't let me buy it... I get this error when I try to pay. https://imgur.com/qgrlUu3
I have successfully used that payment method before, by the way, so I don't know what's wrong...

So I guess I am left with using the app as long as the APIs work... Or pray that someday Microsoft store will work... Or hope that there is an updated Linux build... Or?

P.s. I tried Phoenix09's prebuilt version but it has UI issues, I think it's because of 125% scale, but I am not sure, so I went back to 4.7.9. Does the Microsoft store app have UI issues too?

1.
Less than 600 EUR per month? Where are you from? What is your profession?

2.
The error message says you should contact Microsoft Support. Did you contact Microsoft Support? What did they say?

3.
If you're using Phoenix09's build, then you're not welcome to impose on my time here in the official forums, but very welcome to ask Phoenix09 for support on any issues that you may have:
https://github.com/Phoenix09/filebot/issues/3

4.
FileBot is tested on 1x and 2x resolution, so it'll work best on 100% and 200% scale factors. I wouldn't recommend using non-integer scale factors. Apple wisely does the same and only supports 1x, 2x and 4x scale factors.

I make a bit more than half of that, eastern Europe (EU), IT support.
2.

I had to move my account to local, I had it on USA so that I could use Cortana, but I also had to use a different credit card... - in case others have the same issue, try to do what I did.

I am not using that, I actually find it nice to see how many files has Filebot renamed!

Yes, but 2x would be crazy to use :-) Maybe on a 4k monitor.
Anyway, it seems that Phoenix09 messed something up...

Doing a bit of it this very weekend as a matter of fact 👍

RedNoah,

We chatted the other night/day on FB. With regards to justifying the promo code:
Promo Codes are available for anyone who has donated more than $5 before 2012 or more than $10 before 2014 or more than $20 before 2016.
I've donated twice, $10 recently, within the month and back in July 2015. If you want me to find my paypal information for those donations I will.

Greetings,

somehow, i encountered troubles with re-installing Filebot. It did work for a long time after purchase, but a while ago it's behaviour was very odd. So I decided to delete it and install it fresh from windows store.

But now I'm just getting errors when trying to install these app.
Error Codes are:
Code: 0x80070005
Code: 0x80240013

I'm using Windows 10, which is up to date.

Anyone encounter this problem, too, and was able to fix this?
Or, dear developer, could you look into this nagging error?

Thanks in advance!
If more information is necessary, please don't hesitate to yell at me ;)

Is this a Windows Store error message? Did you contact Microsoft Support?

Unfortunately, not much I can do about these kind of errors, since code changes in FileBot can't fix Windows issues. However, the general recommendation is to disable / uninstall tools the interfere with Windows (e.g. firewall, anti-virus, etc) or to completely factory reset Windows 10. Logging in and out of the Windows Store might sometimes resolve licensing issues (e.g. after a motherboard / hardware change).

Windows 10 Factory Reset is the silver bullet here and will most assuredly fix the problem, but understandably, it might be a last resort for you. I recommend trying it with a secondary Windows 10 machine first.

JS8 wrote:23 Apr 2018, 23:41 Dear Rednoah,

I used your software a while back and am intending to buy the new version. I have two questions:

1. I am not a coder, but I do contribute in the forums and chat support areas for both Plexguide and Cloudbox, which are open source media services using docker, ansible, etc. I know this is only a small contribution, but if you would be kind enough to send a promo it would help me to afford a licensed version of filebot.

2. Does a license cover only one platform? e.g. Windows or Mac? Or would it cover both platforms? I use a Mac at home, but am likely moving to Win 10 for schoolwork shortly.

Thank you and kind regards
1.
Please post links to your forums profile and larger posts such as tutorials if any.

2.
As you'll be purchasing FileBot from Apple / Microsoft, each license will be limited to the Store you buy it from, and thus limited to that platform. Think iOS App Store / Google Play Store. Same thing.

Your Desktop when FileBot doesn't work. A common problem is that FileBot is running (i.e. in the task bar) but somehow the window is displayed outside of the screen bounds (e.g. on a disconnected external monitor).

Can you repeat the process with one your machines without installing any of your custom tools?

Install Windows, login to Microsoft Account, install FileBot. Nothing else. That kinda can't not work.

Afterwards we can have a look at your custom software and narrow down which one is interfering with things. I'm keen on finding out.

Hi!

After I recognized the Linux version didn't get any updates, I bought FB from the Windows Store a few days ago.

How can I see which version is installed and how dose it works with updates? It is my first Windows Store purchase. :D

I ask, because the validation function in FB didn't work and maybe updates will bring the function back.

Greetings,

See FAQ for how to see which version / revision you're using. If you're using the Windows Store, then you'll always be running the latest version, because the Windows Store will automatically update your apps.

Hello. I just built a new Win 10 machine, and I too am unable to purchase the app from the Windows Store. The purchase button shows $19.99, but is disabled. I am able to purchase other apps from the store fine, so this is specific to FileBot.

I'm perfectly happy to pay the money for the latest version. What are my options to get the 4.8.x version?

I'm in the U.S.

Thanks for a great app!

Please post a screenshot of the Windows Store page with Purchase button disabled. There's usually some message. Maybe you just need to install the latest Windows 10 updates?

I have similar issue, Installed on 3 Windows 10 Machines, Then I did another PC with a clean Install to test, Installed FB from Windows Store and receive same error, about permissions in C:\program files\WindowsApps, Tried to even modify permissions on that test box and still no luck.
Yes I am Domain Administrator, Full desktop Administrator, no i cannot launch the program.
This has to be a known issue with Windows Latest release, Please advise.

Maybe a screenshot would provide lots of information as to what exactly you're doing? For example, how exactly are you trying to start FileBot? By clicking on the Start menu tile?

You're not supposed to change default permissions. If you mess with the WindowsApps folder you might break things. Windows Store apps can only be launched by using the Start menu button, not by double clicking the exe file.

Went through almost 2 hours of tech support hades with a Windows technician in order to even purchase the application on the Microsoft Store. When I would click "buy", the button would disappear for a little bit, and then it would reappear. Meanwhile, the App was not purchased. Had to create a new local user account and prove that I truly was who I said I was just to make the purchase. In an ironic twist, even though it was on sale for $9, I was charged the full price! Needless to say, it was not a fun or easy experience. I understand why you decided to release it on the Windows Store, but I really miss the days of the exe or msi installer, and receiving a license key via e-mail. (maybe I am just getting old ;) )

All that being said, I have used your application for years under Linux, and wanted to have it on my Windows machine. While not a fan of the UWP and Windows/ Microsoft Store in general, I was happy to help support your development efforts.

Why is Filebot showing up as on sale when I check the store from my computer at work, but when I check on my computer at home with my personal account, it's full price. I want to purchase it, but I don't want it linked to my work account.

Thank you kim for you support.
Sadly it didn't work in my case, but something else did. Fairly simple to be honest.
I read here that you can try to logout from the windows store and then log back in.
In my case it worked wonders. I can now download and purchase apps.
I hope it helps some of you as well

I am sorry that I did not reply sooner. I was on a vacation trip and because I lost a bet with the wife, I had to leave the laptop at home. :(

What I did was to create a new "local user account" on my Windows 10 computer. This account is an account that resides only on your computer. It will be tied to whatever Microsoft account that you use with the Windows Store. Because it is a local account, it will not affect your Windows activation or any of your Windows Store settings. I then logged into that local user account and was able to purchase programs from the Windows Store. After you make a purchase, you can log into your normal account and install the program there. I then deleted the extra local user account. Here are the directions from Microsoft on how to make a local user account: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... or-account

Hey @rednoah after getting a new laptop I just discovered filebot is no longer for public use.. you wrote at the beginning of this thread that you would consider giving licenses to people who have done some kind of community services in the past. Well when I was in church I used to go do missions trips to Mongolia. This was more than just simple proselytizing but also had a lot to do with distributing simple medical/dental care and spreading information about aids prevention. I don't know how you feel about community service that is church oriented but I really feel like we did some good over there..

I'm having an issue installing my purchased copy I bought today. Windows is showing no devices to install to. I have reached out to support, but as I wait, i'm wondering if you've seen similar instances of this?

I have confirmed i am signed in on the machine, and have tried the options here: https://www.windowscentral.com/fix-pend ... s-10-store I've also uninstalled legacy.

That seems to be a Microsoft issue, that a 3rd party developer such as myself can't really do anything about.

There's a new release in beta which gives your more options, such as not using the Microsoft Store at all, so that might be a solution:

The Microsoft Store is completely independent of my own cross-platform license system (which is new and currently in beta). The latter is primarily intended for users who can't or don't want to use the Store for one reason or another.

You should be able to get a refund via Microsoft Support. You can also use your Microsoft Store purchase on any other Windows PC that you probably have that are not bound by organizational restrictions.

Post by Tonze »

Ok, I've paid for the software and installed from the Windows Store, no problem.

But what happens if I need install after reinstalling Windows OS. Where do I get the software to reinstall?
I've got an order number and receipt, but no software or serial # to reinstall.
If I got to the Windows store now, I'm asked to purchase again.

Also, its not clear how many PCs I can install this software on.

Please advise,

Thanks in advance

1.
If you're using the Microsoft Store, then it will remember your purchase and you can reinstall your purchase on any Microsoft device, and you can easily reinstall any software from the Store since the Store remembers what you have bought. It's the same as on Android and iOS. You obviously don't have to purchase everything again just because you get a new phone or new computer. It's quite straightforward, and you should be familiar with how it works from your phone, so I'm quite sure where the issue is here.

TL;DR You purchase software with you Microsoft account, so all your purchases are stored and remembered in your account, just like on your phone, hence there is no such thing as a license code on the Microsoft Store / Apple Store / Google Store.

2.
As far as my custom licensing system is concerned, I have full control, so I can issue you a free 1 year license if that makes you feel better.

I cannot however invalidate or refund your Windows Store purchase, since Microsoft keeps sales data (i.e. who bought what) completely private and doesn't share it with developers, which means I can't verify your purchase other than just taking your word for it, which I'm doing here.

I am new to Filebot, and I am curious if there is a temporary or trial version available? I am only seeing options for $40 (Windows store) or through this website for $48. I do see the 1yr license for $6, but I am likely to purchase the full software once I see/experience the user-friendliness of it. I love working with new software and financially supporting the developer(s), but only when I know it will be something that I can use after reading through documentaton. I love to learn, but I typically rely on trial periods to know if it is something I *can* learn. Is there a promo code for a shortened period of time that the developer would be willing to share? P.S. I really love what I've read so far in these forums (just registered a moment ago, so I cannot send PMs yet), and until the full launch of FileBot to the Windows store... it was pretty awesome that you were giving out promo codes for people who give back. I am not a developer, nor do I have the skills to be one.... but I give blood regularly and I am an avid sewist. I have been out of work for nearly 3 years now, as I am staying home to be caretaker for my now live-in Mom; she moved in with my husband and I and has since required more fulltime care. With my spare time at home, I am able to help others in the online community by giving out daily sewing advice for new sewists. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If this was already addressed and I missed it, I apologize in advance.

You can fully evaluate everything before purchase simply by downloading it and installing it and using it:
https://www.filebot.net/#download

The only thing that is locked is the actual renaming operation, but everything that leads up to that, such as dragging in files, matching, playing with custom formats, CLI commands, etc is free to evaluate without restriction.

That aside, I can offer you a free 1 year universal license in appreciation of your sewing skills. :ugeek:

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. After making my post, my ability to private message opened up.... I sent you my information through there. Goes to show you how much I understood from what I downloaded, because I had trouble making it work. I am confident I will figure this out once I have the unlocked version side-by-side with these forums. I tend to learn by doing and reading simultaneously. Once I get a few files renamed and I understand the software better, I intend to purchase. This 1 yr license will really go a long way in giving me a chance to learn it. Thanks again for your response, kind words on my sewing skills, and especially your generosity with the 1 yr code. I am really looking forward to this. Thanks again!!

On the Windows store, you have to pay $39.99 to purchase this instead of allowing the $6 per year?! I already purchased it but haven't updated in a while and now in order to update it keeps taking me to the Windows Store? Why can't I just update and move my key file?

The Windows Store purchase is a one-time purchase. It'll keep working and auto-update forever. You don't need a universal license. Your Windows Store purchase will just work. The Windows Store version will also never remind you about updates, because Windows will keep it up to date automatically.

:!: If you have purchased from the Store, always install via the Store. Don't use the MSI package.

So good that I didn't think twice about a donation.

However life got in the way and I haven't used it in a while.
Wondering if that temporary licence is still available?

However, if your country is not taking care of you, low income, non-free healthcare, crazy student loan, or just generally have financial difficulties at this point in time, then I am sympathetic. Just PM me name / email and then I'll get you sorted (with a 1 year complimentary license). ;)
