Series no longer matching correctly

Post by brijazz »

The last two eps of "The Simpsons" have been put into a folder called "The Simpsons - Tracey Ullman Shorts" instead of simply "The Simpsons" as usual. Logs show this entry for both eps: Resource not found: https://api.themoviedb.org/3/tv/456/season/37 [404 Not Found]

These episodes are from season 35 - there is no season 37 as of yet! Any suggestions?

I had no problems with this series/season until just the last two episodes. Prior to S33E09, my script returned results in line with yours.

Here's sysinfo (with some things redacted for privacty): https://pastebin.com/cU01uhFB

Running filebot -script fn:sysinfo told me an update is available, but I can't upgrade to 5.1.2. It requires MacOS 10.15, but my machine only supports up to 10.13.

:idea: FileBot will grab the latest episode listing every few days but I guess you could try if filebot -clear-cache makes a difference.

So it'll likely work again in the future. Maybe somebody added some bogus episode information which was subsequently removed. Newer versions of FileBot better account for invalid episode listings. Supporting older versions of macOS is unfortunately not possible. Apple itself has already dropped support for 10.15 and prior. The latest macOS versions do support x86_64 architecture though, so I'm not sure why Apple would block your upgrade path there...

No change after running filebot -clear-cache, unfortunately.

It's an old Mac, no longer supported I guess.

There's a good chance that it'll work for upcoming episodes. Let's wait and see.

No new episodes of this show have aired since I last posted, but I'm having a similar issue with another show so I thought I'd tack it onto this thread. Note that I tried matching with both v4.95 and v5.1.2 on different Macs.

The file in question is:

Code: Select all

After.Midnight.2024.2024.01.22.Chad.Daniels.1080p.WEB.h264-EDITH.mkv
This is a show that airs daily. Filebot says "Failed to identify or process any files" even when forcing the series ID via:

Code: Select all

-q 441733
Filebot does rename it correctly after I've manually renamed the file to

Code: Select all

After Midnight - S01E04.mkv
Thoughts?

:?: What does the following command say?

Shell: Select all

filebot -list --q 441733 --db TheTVDB --format "{airdate} | {episode}"

:!: FileBot will be unable to match 2024-01-22 to an episode if there is no episode for that particular airdate according to the database:

-list confirms that After.Midnight.2024.2024.01.22 can't work because the date in the file name is wrong. Presumably, that file is meant to be 2024-01-23.

EDIT:

:idea: You can still use the --filter option to force a specific episode if you must use the command-line for some reason:

Console Output: Select all

$ filebot -rename *.mkv --db TheTVDB -non-strict --format "{n} - {s00e00} [{airdate}] - {t}"  --filter "e == 4" --action TEST --log INFO
[TEST] from [After.Midnight.2024.2024.01.22.Chad.Daniels.1080p.WEB.h264-EDITH.mkv] to [After Midnight - S01E04 [2024-01-23] - Chad Daniels, Kelsey Cook, Milana Vayntrub.mkv]

A-ha! Hadn't noticed the wrong date in the filename - I should've caught that before posting. Thanks for the help.

I'm having continuing issues with this. When I run:

Code: Select all

filebot -list --q 441733 --db TheTVDB --format "{airdate} | {episode}"
I get a different listing for the series than appears on tvdb.com.

For example, running -list shows the first episode of the show as:

Code: Select all

2024-01-17 | After Midnight - 1x01 - Whitney Cummings, Aparna Nancherla, Kurt Braunohler
But the show's entry at https://thetvdb.com/series/after-midnig ... official/1 lists this episode as having first aired on 2024-01-16. There's a one-day discrepancy between the website and -list for all episodes of this show.

Looks like the episode was edited recently, and FileBot has cached the episode listing recently so it's using the cached information instead of requesting it every time.

:idea: Here's what I get at this point in time:

Console Output: Select all

$ filebot -list --q 441733 --db TheTVDB --format "{airdate} | {episode}"
2024-01-16 | After Midnight - 1x01 - Whitney Cummings, Aparna Nancherla, Kurt Braunohler
2024-01-17 | After Midnight - 1x02 - Paul F. Tompkins, Sophie Buddle, Carl Tart
2024-01-18 | After Midnight - 1x03 - Max Greenfield, James Davis, Robby Hoffman
2024-01-22 | After Midnight - 1x04 - Chad Daniels, Kelsey Cook, Milana Vayntrub
...

:arrow: If you run the same command again in 4-5 days then you will likely get the same results. You can do a Clear Cache to get the current episode listing right now.

I actually did run -clear-cache before my last post but am getting different results than you. I've run it again just now and still have differing results.

Code: Select all

macmini:~ [redacted]$ filebot -clear-cache
Clear cache
* Delete /Users/[redacted]/.filebot/cache/0 (20 KB)
macmini:~ [redacted]$ filebot -list --q 441733 --db TheTVDB --format "{airdate} | {episode}"
Initialize new disk cache: /Users/[redacted]/.filebot/cache/0
2024-01-17 | After Midnight - 1x01 - Whitney Cummings, Aparna Nancherla, Kurt Braunohler
2024-01-18 | After Midnight - 1x02 - Paul F. Tompkins, Sophie Buddle, Carl Tart
2024-01-19 | After Midnight - 1x03 - Max Greenfield, James Davis, Robby Hoffman
2024-01-23 | After Midnight - 1x04 - Chad Daniels, Kelsey Cook, Milana Vayntrub

I can only assume that TheTVDB does some server-side / region-specific caching as well, and there's going to be some caching on the CloudFlare edge for your region at the very least. Try again next week and see if you get different results.

EDIT:

Nevermind. It's just people editing the database every day, so now that I check the latest episode listing, I also get the new / old airdates:

Console Output: Select all

$ filebot -list --q 441733 --db TheTVDB --format "{airdate} | {episode}"
Initialize new disk cache: /Users/rednoah/.filebot/cache/0
2024-01-17 | After Midnight - 1x01 - Whitney Cummings, Aparna Nancherla, Kurt Braunohler
2024-01-18 | After Midnight - 1x02 - Paul F. Tompkins, Sophie Buddle, Carl Tart
2024-01-19 | After Midnight - 1x03 - Max Greenfield, James Davis, Robby Hoffman
...

Ohhh.... so it's TVDB users editing the series and manually changing the airdates on each episode, thus causing the discrepancy between what cbs.com says and what TVDB says?

FWIW, episode 1 of the show aired on January 17th (not the 16th as cbs.com says - I think they're getting confused because the show airs past midnight). Additionally, Sonarr hasn't been able to find the show because of the date mismatch. Kind of a mess right now!
