Release Groups {group}

The {group} binding matches known release group names from the current filename. This however only works by checking filename against known release groups and matching one if possible.

Release groups not in this lists will not be recognized by FileBot, so if you stumble across missing release groups post them here and I'll add them to the list. Please post lists of release groups line-by-line with official upper-case/lower-case spelling (e.g. aXXo) so I can easily merge them into the online list. FileBot will update its locally cached release group data from this online list once a week meaning this list is shared with all users.

Due to the timing between new data being published on the server-side once per week, and new data being requested on client-side once per week, it may take up to 2 weeks for new data to trickle down to all clients.

If you use {group} you will want to make sure that your expression still works as intended even if {group} is undefined. This can easily be done by making the separator characters part of the {expression} code, e.g.

You can minimize false positives with logic like this:

{ n.findMatch(group) ? null : group }

You can match additional custom tags such as iNTERNAL from the file name:

{ fn.match(/(?-i:iNTERNAL)/) }

If your files are already uniformly well-named, then you can directly match arbitrary release group names from the filename.

e.g. match -group at the end of the filename:

e.g. match [group] at the ending of the filename:

You can use the filebot -mediainfo command to preemptively find files where {group} is undefined, and then extract the group names using the patterns above, so we can add them to the list.

e.g. print {group} for each file:

e.g. find files for which {group} is undefined:

Shell: Select all

filebot -mediainfo -r /input --filter "none{ group }" --format "{ f }"

e.g. find files for which {group} is undefined, then match the likely group name via common patterns from from the file name, and finally print the result in unique sort order:

Is it possible for us to edit/create our own local group lists to override the global list? Even better is to keep the global list as it is (updating every 2 days), but to also merge it with a second list that's kept and maintained locally, by each user.

Also I'm getting false positives on show and episode titles for groups names that are just common words, e.g. "west" and "red". Not sure what you can do about that.

Thanks! Added them to the list. WEST and RED are release groups, just deleted them for now. {group} will match the last occurance of any release group, e.g. "1x01 - Phase Red tpz" => "tpz"

I've just started using a modified version of your regex to match groups and it works great. Most files I have are in either "-group.avi" or "group-blahblah.avi" and this hits the target just about every time.

Just thought I'd post an update to my group matching expression above. This one matches groups in the format filename-group.ext, group-filename.ext, [group]filename.ext, filename[group].ext.

It includes a fix for false positives from shows/movies with titles that are hyphenated, e.g. "X-Men" would lead to: filename-X.ext.
It also no longer gives false positives for multi-part files in the format cd1-filename.ext or filename-cd1.ext.

Also this release group THE is giving me a lot of false positives .. whenever the word 'The' appears in the movie/series or episode title of the original filename and no valid group is found, it assumes THE is the group. If this group is not popular one could think about removing that one .. or check for false positives so that the group is not contained in either the move/series or episode title. Also had false positives with SPARKS recently ..

Added the missing ones. RGs that overlap with english words I always add as upper-case. Makes things a bit more reliable.

If you could please add the following groups I would appreciate it. I already checked them all against whats already in the list and removed any duplicates I had in my group list. A quick note, some do look similar, for instance (G_P) vs G_P (already on list). Also the release group [p] listed as "p" (no quotes) is not a typo, it is a group.

Oh and if you were wondering, there are 70 names here. I know its a lot but what can I say, I am a hard drive pack rat. I was going to add more, but I got tired of cross checking my database with your list. I will put the rest up later.

Can't add "p" because it'd just lead to false positives. Also (G_P) should be recognized as G_P right? Which sounds good to me.

Also you don't need to cross check things, my scripts merge that automatically. Just send me lists of group-names and I see how best to integrate them.

Hey, found that "KILLERS" isnt in the list. "Royal.Pains.S05E03.HDTV.x264-KILLERS" Just gets null and "True.Blood.S06E05.720p.HDTV.x264-KILLERS" gets tRuE.

EDIT: Also found that SPARKS not in the list. EG Oz.the.Great.and.Powerful.2013.1080p.BluRay.x264-SPARKS

This is such a great app!

I've also looked into adding the Release groups to the filenames but couldn't make it work.
It's really important to me to retain the information of origin (at-a-glance).

The {groups} binding is the best possible solution when it works, but one can still find many files where this is not the case.
For such instances regex text pattern matching is a good enough solution.

I would like to use both options in such a way:
1. Use the {groups} binding where it exists (is not null), and filename pattern otherwise.
2. I don't really mind where there would be both with different strings (although "official" {groups} has precedence), but the problem is where there are identical, thus duplicating the string/tags.

Is it possible to disregard/remove one of them when they are duplicates, using regex? It's little too complicated for me to solve this one.

This is what I have put together (using some of the naming schemes shared on the forum):

{".[$group]"}{'.'+[fn.match(/(?:(?<=[-])\w+|.$)|(?:^\w+(?=[-]))/)]}

(the more complete expression shared by "Igor" does not work for me)

The latter expression should find the "group" string from the "-" to the end of the filename or to the "." character (sometimes issue with subtitle extensions).
I thougt one way to de-duplicate when strings are identical would be to add .replaceAll("$group") but I couldn't make it work (at least somewhat) properly.
Duplicate removal should be case insensitive too.

Is there a way to do this?

You'll figure out that {group} and {fn.match(...)} will throw errors and break the {...} block.

You can use c{...} to get around this default behavior:

You can start playing with this. The exact logic u want you have to define yourself.

also I've noticed that when there's a folder called "Family.Guy.S06E03.DVDRip.XviD-TOPAZ" with a file called "tpz-fguy603.avi" (tpz stands for TOPAZ), and I drag & drop the folder into FileBot, it can correctly parse the show name/season number/episode number etc, but the group shows up as tpz instead of TOPAZ. Any chance this could get fixed?

Doing something like tpz-fguy603.avi => TOPAZ can't work with the {group} binding, but you can always define your own special case in the format.
