.deb script edit

Post by wernerb »

Would recommend making a note on deb installer page...IF YOU DO NOT RUN as ROOT or SUDO; will do nothing but notify; will not create repo or anything else! Don't assume EVERYONE on Linux is an expert...

Thanks.

 If you're on Debian / Ubuntu / etc then you will want to use sudo apt-get install to install the filebot package. You can copy & paste the commands from the Ubuntu / Debian package is available via APT link:
https://www.filebot.net/linux/apt.html

 If you just download the *.deb package and then double-click on it, then its up to your specific distribution and file manager and installed programs what happens next. I would expect that default program for *.deb files to ask for super user permissions and then install the package. That said, you'll want to use the APT repository since that will not just install FileBot and all its dependencies, but also keep FileBot up-to-date like any other package.

:?: Would you like us to remove the Ubuntu / Debian package: FileBot_*_amd64.deb link from the Download section? Some users like to download a file and then double-click on it, like on Windows, but we could consider removing that link if that's causing confusion.
 Please read the FAQ and How to Request Help.
