When Renaming getting "MOVE [file path]" error (A -> B: Invalid argument)

Here are my sys info outputs: I see something about resetting cache, but no clue if indeed that IS the issue and if it IS, then no clue how to reset it... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Invalid argument suggests an internal macOS file system error, i.e. FileBot asks macOS to move A to B, then the OS fails to do so and returns an error message instead:

Since it's an internal macOS error, there's nothing that FileBot could do differently. If macOS can't move files, then FileBot can't move files.


You could however do some random trial & error testings to see what works and what doesn't work. Different files, in different folders, on different disks, restart your MacBook, restart your SMB server, etc, and see what works.


You could try to move files manually via the mv command to see if that works:

mv -v "A" "B"

Since /Volumes/Public is a network share the issue could also be the remote SMB server, or intermittent network issues.


This issue is not related to FileBot caching network responses from TheTVDB / TheMovieDB / etc. Current application revision (r9760) does not match cache revision (r9722): reset cache merely indicates that you have just updated from r9760 and r9722 and that FileBot has automatically reset its own cache to make sure it's not working with possibly incompatible information cached by previous application versions.
