Files aren´t renamed and moved

Post by GlassFish »

Hey,
I just updated from 4.3? to the 4.5 and it seems the the recognition is way better.
At most I like that if it doesn´t recognize the name it asks you and shows you the unknown filename.

Well I have found an bug.

If I want to rename those Files, it tells me that this filenames are not allowed (points and double points) and want to validate it. After that nothing happens.
The files remain in the GUI and the real files stay at their place.

Click "Validate". Then click "Continue".

LoL?
Of course I am doing that.
But after clicking continue.
The Validation dialog disappears and I come back to the main gui.
With the files.

Then I guess the files can't be renamed for some reason the validation dialog doesn't catch and fix. What do the files that don't work have in common?

Paste me the paths that don't work and I'll have a look.

Maybe the files are write-protected a.k.a Read-Only.

Hey,

Were you ever able to help this person?
I seem to be having the same problem where it shows the Invalid Names window, I select "Validate" then "Continue".
The window closes and the "New Names" still shows the file names with ":" and nothing is renamed.

I can't really find something in common with the files.
Some are MKV some are MP4.
None of the files exist already in the mapped location.
None of the files are set to Read-Only.
The files are being renamed and placed in a different folder on the same drive.

I would really appreciate any input.

Thanks!

Well, can you give me a file path for a file that doesn't work?

2.
Once you click Validate all the illegal characters like ':' should be stripped from the new proposed filename.

Also, it's either gonna work, or there will be some sort of error message. Which is it? Do you have any screenshots that illustrate the problem?

FIXED

Hey Noah,

Thanks for your time.
For some reason when I decided to do 3 or 4 folders (Each with a movie and some files) instead of 10-15 folders, it worked fine.
The files needed to be validated, (since the ":") and when I clicked Validate -> Continue it renamed them properly and were no longer showing in the windows.

Just for future people who might have this issue, I still wanted to show what screenshots I did get.

Initial Screen After Load

After Clicking Rename

After Clicking Validate

After Clicking Continue - WHAT WOULD HAPPENED BEFORE IT STARTED WORKING
Image

Back to the original screen after load (with "New Names" still having ":" listed).
There was no error or warning screen after that.
It just seemed as if it didn't register the validation.

Hopefully this helps someone else or at least provides a little documentation for this if it happens again.

1.
You will never see the validated entries in "New Names". Files will be renamed right away and the corresponding entries will be removed from the list.

If you cancel the validation nothing will happen. You will not see the validated entries in the list.

2.
If somehow a specific set of files doesn't work. Try to find out if there's one specific file in that set that just won't work, and post the filename of that file (as text).
