[PROBLEM] Subtitle Fetching / Antivirus blocks HTTP requests

Post by qwasqwas »

I've been using FileBot for a while now and I gotta give it to you guys, this is an awesome program.
I always use it to download subtitles and it has been doing a great job at it ever since I started using it; but a little while ago, it sopped fetching the subs.
The program still works and all, it still renames TV shows correctly, but when I drop a file into the "Download" section of the "Subtitles" tab, it opens the "Download Subtitles" window but doesn't download anything.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I also forgot to mention that this only started happening as soon as I updated to the latest version 4.5

If there's something in specific that you need to know, ask me; but other than that I don't really have much to add.

You could try the latest 4.5.2 release from HEAD.

I'd also help if you run FileBot (console) so you can see error messages. Also a tooltip above the error icon may reveal more information.

I have tried 4.5.2 and it asks for login information which OpenSubtitles itself doesn't require, so I switched back to 4.5

Console:

That's a server-side issue. Either the API is down, severs generally overloaded, or your IP is blocked, or something like that. Basically it's sending some sort of HTML error page instead of a valid API response.

1- API is down.
2- Servers generally overloaded.
3- IP blocked.

Number 2 and 3 aren't an option because I've tried manually getting on OpenSubtitles and downloading subs and everything works fine. I also used a VPN and FileBot still didn't fetch the subs. Also, if there was a problem with the server it would mean other FileBot users would be getting similar issues which would lead to other people reporting it, which according to my research is not the case.
That leaves out the API being down option. If that is the case, how do you propose we fix it?
When you try FileBot from your machine, doesn't it work properly?

OpenSubtitles is currently broken, on the server-side, though for different reasons :D

Nothing we can do. Just wait. And let oss fix it on his side. :D

Turns out, it was a conflict with my antivirus (ESET Smart Security 8).
In case anyone else faces the same problem, the solution is to uncheck "Enable HTTP checking":

(Unless you know what "Ports used by HTTP protocol" is, and which one FileBot/OpenSubtitles uses)
