Hi everybody,
hopefully somebody can help me with my problem. After renaming the files I can't watch them anymore. I tried it on the macbook as well on the media tank. I'm working with the filebot OSX version.
Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

Files doesn't work after renaming
Re: Files doesn't work after renaming
Since FileBot doesn't touch file contents this can't happen.
Are you renaming files on a remote SMB share? Or AFP share? What NAS are you using? Most likely your NAS is buggy. Some NAS software has issues with xattr metadata.
If you can figure out why files can't be played, that would be helpful. Is it permissions? Is it buggy NAS? What works and what doesn't? Local filesystem? Remote filesystem?
Also, please read the manual on how to post a post:

Re: Files doesn't work after renaming
Thank you for your fast response.
I tried to rename files on the mac and on the external USB drive. I wanted to try it with this files first.
Actually the screen stays dark and I only can hear the audio...
Is it possible that filebot adds some information to the metadata which can cause this problem?
cheers

Re: Files doesn't work after renaming
FileBot may add xattr metadata if supported by the platform. However xattr metadata is a filesystem feature and leaves the actual file contents completely untouched. Also other programs probably do not read xattr metadata so it shouldn't make a difference.
I'd try different video players then. If you rename local files on the Mac then xattr metadata really really can't be an issue.
* Have tried renaming files locally on the Mac (not USB drive)?
* Are you using the latest version of Mac OS X?
* What video player are you using? Have you tried VLC media player?
