suball not finding subtitles

Post by Msh »

Hello,

I have a simple issue, some media isn't able to find subtitle matches on osdb.

I suspect this is because of the way I have sorted my media, rather than moving the media (using amc), I use "--action symlink". Because of this, the symlink doesn't contain information in the filename such as the source.

For example:
Vikings - S01E01 - Rites of Passage.mkv -> ../../../Vikings.S01.720p.BluRay.x264-CtrlHD/Vikings.S01E01.Rites.of.Passage.720p.BluRay.x264-CtrlHD.mkv

Is it possible that by not following the symlink to get the filename, that suball doesn't obtain enough information for osdb? And if this is the case, would it be possible for suball to determine the symlink location correctly and search using that?

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks
Msh

FileBot uses the current filename and the original filename (stored in xattr metadata) to look for subtitles. If By-Name-Lookup is used then By-Hash-Lookup has already failed to yield subtitles.

Download subtitles via FileBot "manually" and then upload them again with the media file to add the missing file<->subtitle link.

A hash identifies a file based on it's contents, not it's name. OpenSubtitles and FileBot support upload & download via hash. If you upload subtitles with FileBot you will upload subtitle content and file hash so in the future others can download perfectly matching subtitles for this specific file regardless of the files name and regardless of what similarly named but differently timed subtitles are available.

i.e. if you upload subtitles with filebot, others will get subtitles more reliably
