TheMovieDB for episode mode
TheMovieDB for episode mode
Hi, is it possible to add the tmdb to the episode mode? so you can select themoviedb instead of thetvdb for series. thanks, tig
Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
TheMovieDB is not supported for TV mode. I know they now support TV episode data to some degree, but I haven't implemented that yet, and I don't quite see how it's superior to TheTVDB at this point.
Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
I know, that´s not supported yet. so my post was a feature request
I thought it might not be that hard to implement, because you already use the tmdb api ?
For me it´s much better then thetvdb .. entering data is quite simple and I like it to have the same site for all media. I don´t want to add new series 2 times to 2 platforms.. - so it would be great to have this feature in filebot and I can use filebot even for new entered series !

Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
What would be the benefits of using TheMovieDB for TV shows as well? I'd expect TheTVDB to have much more complete data since it's been around for much longer. Convince me.

Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
you are right, thetvdb of course has much more data (if you count the series)... but unfortunately also more messed up data. on the other side tmdb has more complete and quality data (casts, crews, covers and images etc.) editing is much simpler than thetvdb the gui is better and you are used the gui if you also edit movies.
if you find errors or need help in editing or like to change something, responsetime through forum is pretty fast compared to tvdb. the amount and quality of tv shows is rapidly going up. It´s also nice to search in 1 database (so you can find duplicates pretty fast and you can check whether a tv movie for example belongs to a series or is just a movie for example...
I add and edit pretty often and pretty much to the databases and the last months I completely switched to moviedb (for new entries). first I started to also add to tvdb - only because of filebot .. but it´s to much work and doesn´t make sense to me. so I would be glad if filebot also could use moviedb in future
best, tig

Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
I would also recommend this as tmdb has episodic DVD stuff in its tv section that ttvdb does not.
ttvdb is a bit strict with its listings, whereas tmdb sure has fewer listings but seems a bit more complete.
So yes I would second this.
Thanks

Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
Not really. Decided to not work on this until there's some tangible benefits other than having yet another data source. That and all the HTPCs primarily still build on TheTVDB data.
TheMovieDB API seems to be going into the right direction though. There'll probably be some support eventually.

Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
I second this, or TVMaze as a replacement for TVRage, TVDB follows the Japanese release for Pokemon is my main reason and the Japanese release does not follow the same sequence, i.e. TVMaze and MovieDB list season 18 while TVDB lists season 16.
Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
TVmaze support added with r3270.
Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
I purchased through the Mac App Store and currently show v4.6 (3028), when can we expect an OS X update through the MAS or is there a way to download the newer build for OS X without the MAS?
Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
v4.6 is the latest stable release, and I plan to push the next major release sometime this month.
Here's more information if you're willing to try and test the latest nightly builds:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1609
You can't modify the AppStore build, but you can have extra non-AppStore builds. The portable package contains a shell script that will help you update filebot.sh and FileBot.jar to the latest revision.

Awesome, I will definitely look into it! Can't live without this app and glad to support it with the MAS purchase.
Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
And what about TheMovieDB for episode mode ?
Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
I've decided to add TVmaze support for now, as a replacement for TVRage.
Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
Any news about TheMovieDB for episode mode ?
Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
Nope. In the GUI it would look odd to have "MovieDB" in the Episode Mode sources, and on the CLI the --db TheMovieDB doesn't just force the database, but also movie mode.
I don't see a clear benefit of adding TheMovieDB episode mode in addition to the existing episode datasources.

Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
Sorry to beat the dead horse, but I too would love to see themoviedb support for TV shows. PLEX currently supports this and more often than not themoviedb provides a better, more accurate, and more complete listing. It's easier to get errors fixed via themoviedb, it looks cleaner, and it even appears to be faster when scraping metadata. It also supports much more detailed information on a per-episode basis.
For example, Animaniacs:
Air-date mode: http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid ... 4929&lid=7 if you have original recordings or DVD's of this, multiple episodes are combined and screws the listing order when trying to tag files as their list is multitudes longer. In DVD mode, it only includes one of the many episodes per "episode".
The movieDB: https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/82-animaniacs/season/1
This however, is accurate. It lists all the episodes contained in each "episode". Splitting the files would result in a disaster as the opening was only played even on the air for the first of 1, 2, or 3 episodes and would require ugly chopping of video into multiple files to correct and wouldn't be truly correct. If it's not a huge deal to add the feature it would be much appreciated by many, I'm sure. I can totally see themoviedb outclassing thetvdb in a relatively short period of time, a period of time that would be accelerated drastically with more widespread support.

Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
The Animaniacs multiple-episodes-per-episode-number has been fixed already:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3456
If you find more examples (other than Animaniacs) where TheMovieDB clearly provides better results then the other resources, then I might eventually think about supporting that.

Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
Experimental support for TheMovieDB::TV has been added with r3784.
Re: TheMovieDB for episode mode
Nice! I'll have to try the new version; I'm not sure about TV shows as my internet connection at home seems to be down at the moment and I'm unable to access PLEX to see which shows are using themoviedb, but I believe some anime worked better on themoviedb then it did on anidb or thetvdb. Escaflowne, maybe? I'll check when I get home from work.
