FileBot on the Windows Store

Post by rednoah »

FileBot is available on the Windows Store since today! No more NSIS / MSI installers or manual updates!

FileBot on the Windows Store

:!: Make sure to install FileBot via the Microsoft Store. If FileBot nags about a license key, then you did not install FileBot via the Microsoft Store. Please uninstall all editions of FileBot that you may have installed, and then exclusively install FileBot via the Microsoft Store.

:!: Make sure to uninstall previous versions of FileBot before purchasing FileBot on the Windows Store. If FileBot nags about updates or donations, then you are inadvertently running a legacy edition of FileBot, and not the latest Windows Store edition.

Notes:

Windows 10 with all the latest updates is highly recommended, to make sure the Windows Store works smoothly.

Feedback would be much appreciated. Free Promo Codes are available upon request (PM me) especially for anyone who has contributed one way or another in the past. ;)

UPDATE 1 July 2018: Since FileBot has it's own cross-platform license system now, Windows Store promo codes are no longer available. Instead, you may now request a free 1 year universal / cross-platform license.

 Promo Codes are available for anyone who has donated more than $5 before 2012 or more than $10 before 2014 or more than $20 before 2016.

 Promo Codes can be earned by helping out here in the forums. If you're a FileBot Pro, then earning yourself a Promo Code is a piece of cake. ;)

 Promo Codes are available to any and all open-source developers that have contributed anything of value to any open-source project (developers, maintainers, designers, translators, etc).

 If you're affiliated with any of the projects or services that FileBot is built on (e.g. MediaInfo, TheTVDB, etc) then you can have promo codes for you and all your friends.

 Do you regularly contribute to society without expecting to get paid? e.g. suicide hotline, language teaching for immigrants, voluntary fire and rescue service, etc. You most definitely deserve a promo code!

Image

Troubleshooting:

 FileBot does not require you to install Java on your system. The Windows Store package includes FileBot and all it's dependencies including a JRE. If FileBot asks about Java, then you are inadvertently running a legacy version of FileBot, and not the latest Windows Store version.

 Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling FileBot? If you have previously installed FileBot from outside the Windows Store, then it is highly recommended to that you remove any existing legacy installs of FileBot before installing FileBot from the Windows Store.

 Software that interferes with Windows internals such as ZoneAlarm or MSI Afterburner or RivaTuner can crash and break Windows Store applications.

 The Windows Store version of FileBot will import your existing settings from legacy versions of FileBot on startup. You can use remove-java-preferences.reg to clear all existing legacy FileBot settings from the Windows registry.

If you have trouble with the Windows Store, please contact Microsoft Support:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/

If you have questions regarding the Windows Store and troubleshooting issues, you can ask here:

Are you using Windows (Version 14393.351 - KB3197954) or higher?

If it's the same as the Kodi BSOD issue then MS may have fixed that with that update.

What have you tried? Do you mind taking some screenshots of Windows Store not showing FileBot when it should? If usability issues prevent you from making a purchase that's something the Microsoft people might wanna have a close look at.

1.
When you click on the link and get the US store, doesn't it automatically redirect you to the Swedish one?

2.
If you open the Windows Store and search for "filebot", do you get any results?

I had wrong region selected in windows :) so it redirected me back to US store and since i don't have valid payment options for that one i could never process the transcation. But now it works :)

Looking forward to try to automate everything with this one :)

Yeah, and thanks man, i have been looking for exactly this :) this is awesome, just have to find out some small errors, when i try to change from filebot to filebot.launcher. The script stops working.

Have tried using the whole path which in my case is.
C:\Users\bonis66\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\PointPlanck.FileBot_49ex9gnthnt12\filebot.launcher

but then it does not work. but I guess with some trial and error i will get there :)

Edited:
Well figured that out also, it's friday and im tired :) forgot the " " and the .exe now everything is running super smooth :)

The Windows Store will make sure that these things are added to the path.

Commands like "filebot" and "filebot.launcher" will just work. If you're not using a system call (%PATH% is ignored) to call filebot and not CMD or PowerShell, you may need explicitly have cmd do the call.

e.g.

Code: Select all

cmd /c filebot -version

If it doesn't work on several machines, then I'd contact Microsoft Support. Maybe your account is blocked or something.

Have you tried reporting the problem to Microsoft / Windows Store Support? If it doesn't work on different machines using your Microsoft account, but only for one app, then it's probably a problem with your Microsoft account.

Hi Guys,

nice work. Just found out, that Filebot went to the Windows Store because of an older version installed on my Notebook, which send me to the download site. So I got the information, that filebot isnt free anymore.
I like the tool very much an used it several times, but is the windows version only on the mIcrosoft Store from now? 19,89 Euro is pretty much for me and Im sure you had a lot of work, to make this great tool.

So if there isnt a free version anymore or a possibility to find a cheaper key/code for Windows, im forced to search another tool. Thank you for a great time.

You're from Germany, one of richest countries in the world, so I'm not inclined to hand out freebies in this case. Surely, even in Europe, there are many disenfranchised folks for whom $20 is in fact alot. But ask yourself how much money you spend on a weekly basis on beer, coffee, big mac meals, kebabs, video games, netflix/spotify subscriptions, etc or anything else that you could have easily cut back on. $20 might seem a like lot when comparing FileBot to cheap ad supported mobile games, but it's really really not that much for the average EU citizen. $20 is definitely not the kind of expense you'd regret (or even remember) 2-3 months down the line.

Thanks for your answer. I respect it, but you dont know me. And therefore you dont know how much or less money i have to spend.

Nevertheless thank you for your time and your service. May be, I take your advise and stretch the payment on several months. I didnt ask for a freebie. Just wanted to know if there is still a free windows version or a cheaper possibility to buy.

Thank you.

If an extra $20 make that much of a difference to your bottomline, then I'll drop you a promo code. That's fine with me. Just drop me a few lines on why it is you can't afford $20 and convince me. If you really really can't afford it, you'll get it for free.

Does Windows 10 and the Store even work on 32-bit these days? I wasn't aware that 32-bit machines are still around.

If it's a computer made in the last 10 years, then it'll probably run 64-bit Windows just fine. How come you're running 32-bit? I'd like to add that FileBot can run significantly faster on 64-bit operating systems depending on the workload.

For future reference, here's someone that definitely deserves some free stuff, just to make up for how badly society is undervaluing his or her work:
Someone who deserves a free license wrote:I saw on another reddit post that those that work for the good of society at the cost of compensation can PM you about possibly getting a promo code for FileBot (now that it isn't free). I don't know if I qualify but I work with autistic children and last year I earned $16,000. I don't feel like that is very much money for working with a group of people that can be draining. Just last Friday I was bitten by one of my kiddos.

Yeah the store works fine on 32-bit, and the reason is I run a double VPN, vm inside a vm, and with that setup 64 bit is not supported on the second machine.

I guess its time to change my setup :)

And that setup is not about speed but functionality.

I see. Seems like an esoteric setup, so I'm not quite convinced that adding 32-bit support is worth the effort at this point. :P

If you're looking for automation, then the docker image might be worth a look.

How does one request a promo code? I am a social worker in a nonprofit area that would definitely qualify per your guidelines, and I work at least 20 hours per week unpaid. Been using FileBot for years and can't justify the cost for full price option. Thanks.

Hi,

I just found out that FileBot is not free anymore. To be honest that doesn't even surprise me since I was always wondering why FileBot has no ads and no visible way of covering its expenses.
I guess it's reasonable that FileBot turned into proprietary software and the prize is not that much. At least not compared to other tools and services.
I used FileBot for one year now and it saved so much time. Before I was working with websites and Excel sheets and some tasks took me hours that could have been done in seconds using FileBot. I value this tool so much and I fully understand that it can't be free anymore.
But sadly the prize is too much for some individuals. I just can't pay $20 at least not in the next several months.
And I don't expect to get FileBot for free while others pay for it.
But please, please offer a version with advertisement !!!
I would accept all kinds of ads as long as I can somehow continue using FileBot. I use FileBot on a 1366x768 screen and it only covers 50% of the screen. You could fill the remaining 50% with advertisement as long as it is possible to use FileBot without limitations.

I would be very glad if you could consider my suggestion.

I live in the US, in the state of Louisiana. I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) currently working on my Doctorate in Health Administration. I also have an undergraduate degree in Social Work. I have worked in nonprofits my entire adult life and took on $40,000 in student loan debt for the credentials I needed to practice in this helping profession. Despite my credentials, pay in nonprofits (especially in Louisiana) is abysmal. LMSWs at our organization make less than $30,000 annually. I am also supporting my wife as she is a nonprofit professional as well and has been on the job search for 8 months. The social services/nonprofit landscape in New Orleans is nearly non-existent right now due to lack of funding.

I run a day program in New Orleans for disabled seniors and medically-fragile adults with disabilities and chronic comorbid or mental health conditions. The federal and state governments are constantly slashing our funding; staff are always leaving for better pay in the for-profit sector. As the director, I am constantly working for free to keep the program afloat. Our program sustains around 100 elderly and vulnerable adult participants per year and keeps them out of nursing homes and institutionalized care for mental illness. We also provide respite for family caregivers so that they are able to continue working, going to school, etc. Thanks for considering my story, and I will donate in the future as I am able.

Thanks,

I haven't changed anything in the %PATH%

Here is the output:

Code: Select all

FileBot 4.7.8 (r4842)
JNA Native: 5.1.0
MediaInfo: 0.7.92.1
7-Zip-JBinding: 9.20
Chromaprint: 1.4.2
Extended Attributes: OK
Unicode Filesystem: OK
Script Bundle: 2017-03-24 (r490)
Groovy: 2.4.8
JRE: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.8.0_121
JVM: 64-bit Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM
CPU/MEM: 4 Core / 3 GB Max Memory / 17 MB Used Memory
OS: Windows 10 (amd64)
Package: APPX
Data: C:\Users\HTPC\AppData\Roaming\FileBot
Done ?(?????)?
And here is the AMC Script I'm using, in case I have it setup incorrectly.

Code: Select all

filebot.launcher -script fn:amc --output "D:/Media" --action copy --conflict skip -non-strict --log-file amc.log --def unsorted=y music=y artwork=n "ut_label=%L" "ut_state=%S" "ut_title=%N" "ut_kind=%K" "ut_file=%F" "ut_dir=%D"
Thanks for the quick response.

Looks like it's working just fine. What makes you believe filebot.launcher is not working? What does the amc.log say?

I recommend using absolute paths so you know where the logs end up so that you can check them:

Code: Select all

--log-file D:/Media/amc.log

So I set the log to an absolute path as you mentioned and just as suspected there was no log produced. Utorrent doesn't run filebot.launcher, but it will run filebot perfectly. Is there an extension I need to add to the end of filebot.launcher? .exe perhaps?

Maybe. What happens if you try? What happens if you call filebot.launcher on the command-line yourself? How about filebot.launcher.exe?

The command-line *.exe files are here:

Code: Select all

C:\Users\${USER}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps
This folder should be in the %PATH% by default. In that folder you'll find filebot.launcher.exe so calling it with or without *.exe should not matter according to my understanding of how Windows CMD works.

So yeah, I checked out everything you said and it all seems fine. I finally did try adding .exe at the end and it worked. I'm not sure why it doesn't work without it, it did with earlier versions. So to recap here is the full script that works:

Code: Select all

filebot.launcher.exe -script fn:amc --output "D:/Media" --action copy --conflict skip -non-strict --log-file D:\Media\amc.log --def unsorted=y music=y artwork=n "ut_label=%L" "ut_state=%S" "ut_title=%N" "ut_kind=%K" "ut_file=%F" "ut_dir=%D"
Thanks for all your help, this program is worth every penny if you ask me.

Please also run this command with PowerShell and post the output:

echo $ENV:PATH
On a clean Windows 10 install, there will be a WindowsApps folder in the %PATH% which is where the Windows Store will link command-line tools.

It's an odd isue, and if I type out "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\filebot.exe" it works fine. I'm not sure what the issue might be, I did restart after reinstalling and I'm on the latest W10 x64 version so that should be ruled out.

Re: FileBot on the Windows Store

One of the tools you installed broke the %PATH% by double escaping % when adding itself. When running echo $ENV:PATH variables such as %USERPROFILE% should not be in the output.

change:

Code: Select all

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps
to:

Code: Select all

C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps
You can use %USERPROFILE% in the "Edit Environment Variable" dialog in the Windows settings, but when using %PATH% it should always appear in it's resolved form.

EDIT:

If we cross-reference your PATH with pjac's PATH we can narrowed down the culprit.

Here's what you guys have in common:

Code: Select all

C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath
C:\WINDOWS\system32
C:\WINDOWS
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem
C:\WINDOWS\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\
C:\Program Files\nodejs\
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps
Microsoft devs know what they're doing, so let's ignore the Microsoft tools:

Code: Select all

C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath
C:\Program Files\nodejs\
Either the Java installer or the NodeJS installer fucked up your PATH. My money is on NodeJS.

Cheers man, I didn't think of that.
I'll look at fixing that somehow when I'm home again.

I've tried the latest version of the NodeJS installer for Windows. The latest version seems to behave itself. Not sure if an older installer of Node JS messed things up, or if it was a different installer entirely.

HI. I'm posting in hopes that I can request a free promo code thru this thread. I know your post says to PM you but apparently I am not allowed to compose a message. I have donated twice in the past for a total of $40. The first $20 because I loved using FileBot and totally depend on it and a second $20 because I recommended it to a few friends and I wasn't sure if they would feel inclined to donate themselves. I might also mention that I contribute to my community by volunteering at the local women's shelter and I provide free babysitting services for other single moms who can't afford childcare. I also regularly donate to the local fire dept. If there is anything else I can do to drown myself in you good graces, just say the word. Please and Thank you. FYI...for the last few months (since I haven't been able to use FileBot) I have been using an app called theRenamer...I absolutely HATE it. It's straight up junk. Please have mercy on me and don't make me continue to use it...I have a tendency to burst into uncontrollable fits of rage every time I open that stupid app.

Peace and Love

Perhaps a very stupid question. Just purchased on the Windows store. After purchasing a possibility came up to "own forever" (or something very similitude) for the exact same price. Does this mean I don't own the program "forever" already, i.e a clean win10 re-install would force me to purchase again?

Thanks!

Not sure what you mean... the Windows Store does not support anything other than lifetime licenses at this point.

You purchase apps with your Microsoft Account, so Microsoft will remember your purchase forever. As long as you log in with your Microsoft Account, you can always restore your purchases on any Windows computer any time.

Hi, Ive been using filebot for a few years, and had it working nicely with qbitorrent. I guess a few months ago it stopped working (launching after torrent completion). I didnt change anything at that point.

I use windows 10 and 64 bit java, filebot, and qbitorrent. Everything is up to date.

I tried and tried over the past month to get filebot to launch from qbitorrent and it just wont. notepad test launches fine. The few cmdline things I try work fine.

As of the other day I got the latest filebot and now I cant even drag and drop a file into it, I get a circle with line through it. It's become quite the pain in the rear to even get it working at all. (I can rename a file if I use filebot interface and drill down through all the folder directories and select the file. Cant drag and drop, and wont launch from qbitorrent. (Ive read through every part of the forum already regarding this, and I had this working fine on quite a few computers in the past (win 7, 8 , and 10)

Did java break filebot or a windows update in your opinion?

Or do I have to buy this from Windows store to get a working program? I have no problem paying for it as long as it works as it used to. I actually feel bad for not donating previously and used it for a long time so paying is worth it, long as it will work.

Opinion?

1.
Please run filebot -version and filebot -script fn:sysinfo and post the output.

2.
The Windows Store is an all-in-one solution. It'll take care of installation and updates and eliminates a whole class of common problems you might encounter when manually installing software.

3.
The drag-n-drop issue sounds like you're trying to drag-n-drop data between processes running as different users, which Windows does not allow for security reasons. Are you running FileBot or Windows Explorer as Administrator?

I had to reinstall filebot (i uninstalled it last night and cleaned the reg) and reinstalled it just now.

Version:
" FileBot 4.7.9 (r4984) / Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.8.0_131 / Windows 10 10.0 (amd64)"

Sysinfo =

Code: Select all

C:\Users\user>filebot -script fn:sysinfo
FileBot 4.7.9 (r4984)
JNA Native: 5.1.0
MediaInfo: 0.7.93
7-Zip-JBinding: 9.20
Chromaprint: 1.4.2
Extended Attributes: OK
Unicode Filesystem: OK
Script Bundle: 2017-05-15 (r500)
Groovy: 2.4.10
JRE: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.8.0_131
JVM: 64-bit Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM
CPU/MEM: 8 Core / 3 GB Max Memory / 22 MB Used Memory
OS: Windows 10 (amd64)
Package: MSI
Done ?(?????)?
This time I did NOT install in Program Files but into the under the C:/Filebot - and now drag and drop works.

Weird?

I try to avoid Windows Store, never bought anything on it. I'll send you $20 through paypal some time today. We'll figure out the launching from qbitorrent later, I work 11 hour days, 4 days a week and Im off to work now. :)

Thank you! Great program, it's saved me massive hours over the years renaming stuff.

1.
If launching CMD from qBT works, and if filebot -version works in CMD, then cmd /c filebot -version will definitely work in qBT, even if you have some strange $PATH issues.

2.
Drag-n-drop depends on inter-process-communication, so it's either Windows that's blocking that, or some other program, like misbehaving Anti-Virus tools and the likes. It's hard to say for sure.

 Presumably, the Windows Store version would have fundamentally resolved both of these issues, so you would never have run into these issues in the first place.

leonie94 wrote:Hi,

This is a great suggestion. I use FileBot frequently and wouldn't mind advertisement aswell. I know 20€ is not much for many people but I just can't afford it at once. I live in Germany but I don't even have a data plan for my mobile or any other digital service which costs money. I'm a student and end up struggeling financially every month because I had to move out and my parents don't support me that much. They are obligated to but I just don't want to fight with them over money.

Sadly I can't offer any social work or special contribution to society but I think the suggestion from leonie94 is a good way to make FileBot available for people with less money.

I would like to ask for a promo code as well. I tried PMing you, however I only just registered. I've used FileBot for years and would like to continue to do so, however I am currently out of work for the time being after having a heart attack. I do not have excess funds to devote towards FileBot as medical costs are astronomical. I have been spending much of my time trying to learn a new skill (I'm presently a forklift mechanic) so that I can do something easier on my heart. I am an active developer for the plexupdate script and try to help out OSS whenever possible.

Hi,

I've been a FileBot user for years and I'm quite sure I've paypal'd you a donation in the past (I only seem to be able to look back 3 years at paypal transactions.
Donation would have come from mike_the_man at hotmail.com). If you wanted to send me a promo code that would be great, though I really have no issue with paying $20 for this great software.

My media server is running Windows Home Server 2011. Will the new version run with WHS 2011? I really have no desire to update to Windows 10. My current version seems to have stopped working a few weeks ago, though I haven't spent any time troubleshooting the reason.

Thanks,
Mike

I don't know if Microsoft has backported the Windows Store to Server 2011. Probably not. The latest Windows Server versions should have access to the Store via Desktop Experience though.

I have been using Filebot for years, and love it.
I recently (today) bought it on the microsoft store, but it did the same thing before.
The screen always gets corrupted (this is the only app the does it).
I'm using windows 10, creators edition, but it did the same on the previous versions of windows
It still works, but this is rather annoying

1.
You can set the J2D_D3D environment variable to false to disable graphics acceleration.

Run this in CMD and then restart FileBot:

Code: Select all

setx J2D_D3D false
This will work around any graphics acceleration issues.

2.
What graphics card and graphics drivers are you using? Using the latest graphics drivers may be a solution.

setx J2D_D3D false will permanently set the J2D_D3D environment variable, so you just need to set it once. It will have no effect whatsoever on any other application (unless that application is using the Java Swing GUI framework, in which case that other application will now also be free of graphics issues).

@rednoah

I am a teacher teaching at a rural school in South Africa. I earn less than $20 000 annually. I do offer free extra lessons after school and on Saturdays to my learners.

Money is a bit tight at the moment and due to the political turmoil in my country, the Rand/Dollar exchange is not looking good at the moment. Having a son at University with ballooning costs also does not help much.

I do not know if my case is deserving but It will be much appreciated if you could grant me a promo code.

Thanks

So I realized that for the past week that filebot.launcher was not working properly for me. I am able to invoke filebot from cmd but not filebot.launcher as I get a command not recognized error. I have the same default PATH as usual, but I checked C:\Users\Fusio\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps and I don't actually have a filebot.launcher executable - only filebot.exe. I tried uninstalling and re-installing filebot from the Windows store but I still get the same issues.

Code: Select all

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.15063]

OS: Windows 10 (amd64)

Done ?(?????)?

C:\Users\Fusio>
Is filebot.launcher not included in the latest release... or did it get located somewhere else? Sure ain't seeing it where it's normally at.

Microsoft has changed it's policy and allows only one command per application now. Using filebot.launcher.exe (the GUI executable) to run FileBot commands without console was always a bit of a hack anyway.

If you want to suppress CMD, then I recommend doing something like this:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5157

This will work for any command-line tool, not just FileBot. ;)

FileBot on the Windows Store

Post by sharkmutiny »

Apologies if wrong thread, I don't have the link you gave me handy right now. I am the fellow who gave 4 stars on the Windows Store due to getting asked for feedback the same day I purchased it. I purchased it yesterday, used it once, went and had dinner... when I returned, lo and behold, there was Filebot wanting my feedback. I was somewhat surprised and a little taken aback by it.

I was under the impression that it was Microsoft in control of the seemingly out of control automatic feedback robot. You see, I only recently signed up to be a Windows Insider, it sounded great at the time. However, it seems by doing so, MS have ramped up significantly their questioning my every move. It is like every click of the mouse is being monitored. I am constantly getting asked for feedback from them. For example, I had the new Windows mobile OS for less than a week before they wanted feedback on how stable it was. Am seriously questioning, and definitely reconsidering, my motives in joining their Insider program.

I have since edited my post and bumped you back up to 5 stars where you belong. Have also sent thru a very small token donation. Warning it is not much, it will barely afford a take-away meal, but hoping you will eat it with a smile on your face remembering how it came about :)
Cheers

I donno. Maybe Windows has some feature where it asks users to leave a review as well? They could easily do that actually...

If it says something like "You have renamed 12345 files. Please write a review." though, then that's definitely FileBot doings it's thing:

I have been really happy using filebot on windows for quite a while now and have been updating on a semi-regular basis I keep all my dvd's and t.v shows backed up to hard drive to keep them safe from damage and having to re-buy them.
However i will not be updating from my current build.
I am happy with the current build and as I am my partners full time carer the cost involved with choosing between updating software or computer parts sorry to say but parts come first (software is useless without the hardware). To keep costs down for my household i use a lot of freeware/shareware and have been incredibly happy with FileBot

Hi there
I was just wondering if there is some way to pay without doing it through the Store? When I try to pay It looks like Microsoft is using another exchange rate than the one I can see is the right one (looks like they are charging an extra $5) - is this a issue you have seen before?

Have a nice day

Do you have a screenshot? The Store uses local currency in almost all regions so there's no exchange AFAIK. The price may be different in different regions due to local taxes.

Oh it must be because of the 25 % tax then. I didn't think about that - i'm so used to the tax being included in the initial price. Thank you for your time :-)

If you go to the en_US front page you'll see the price in USD, but you can also go to the store front end for different countries, and then you should see the exact price in that local currency.

🇺🇸 en_US ➔ https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p ... blggh52t9x
🇯🇵 ja_JP ➔ https://www.microsoft.com/ja-jp/store/p ... blggh52t9x

The Japanese version actually says 税込 (tax included) so this may vary by country :D

Yeah I see that. I just had to make sure that MS didn't try to make ekstra money off my purchase. But no worries I bought it this morning :-) Thank you very much for a fantastic program - hopefully I will eventually be able to contribute in the forums and give a bit back :-D

➔ Purchase FileBot on the Windows Store

:!: Make sure to uninstall previous versions of FileBot before purchasing FileBot on the Windows Store. If FileBot nags about updates or donations, then you are inadvertently running a legacy version of FileBot, and not the latest Windows Store version.

Notes:

Windows 10 with all the latest updates is highly recommended, to make sure the Windows Store works smoothly.

Feedback would be much appreciated. Free Promo Codes are available upon request (PM me) especially for anyone who has contributed one way or another in the past. ;)

 The Windows Store version of FileBot will import your existing settings from legacy versions of FileBot on startup. You can use remove-java-preferences.reg to clear all existing legacy FileBot settings from the Windows registry.

If you have trouble with the Windows Store, please contact Microsoft Support:

If you have questions regarding the Windows Store and troubleshooting issues, you can ask here:

I have Windows 10 and filebot installed from the windows store. Filebot use to work just fine. But now when I launch filebot, I get a blue screen of death every time. I have installed all the latest drivers and trouble shoot my hardware. Filebot is the only thing that is causing my pc to go into a BSOD and it does this as soon as I try to launch it. I'm not sure where the logs are located for the windows store version of filebot.

I'm more than happy to send logs or anything you need to help trouble shoot this issue.

Well, if it's a BSOD then there's something seriously wrong with Windows. By design, an app cannot cause a BSOD.

Make sure you have the latest version of Windows 10, i.e. the Fall Creators Update with all the latest minor updates. Then disable anything that interferes with Windows at a lower level, i.e. graphics drivers, anti-virus, Rivertuner, Bitdefender, etc. As a last resort, a clean install of Windows will almost certainly solve the issue.

The BSOD itself might give you some clues as to what part of the Windows kernel crashed. What does it say?

Just discovered FileBot as well, and want to know if there's a way to try it before committing to it. I will send a PM for a promo code with details on my volunteer work, per the op.
