Please check again. It works for me, and other users have reported that it works now as well. If it still doesn't work, please post the SHA-256 checksum of the SPK file you're using, so that we can confirm that we're on the same page.

"You may need to hit CTRL+R to reload the page. If you're using the Synology Package Manager, you might need to uninstall and then reinstall. Maybe click the Refresh button before as well." This helped!

Thx man!

Perfect! Thanks Red!

Looks like I spoke too soon. Haven't had the chance to check things out completely until yesterday, but this is what I see when I click the icon pinned to the taskbar using build r5684 (updating today) and only happens when using the pinned icon:

happens everytime no matter what I do. Not really an issue for me as far as I can tell but I thought you should know of course.

UPDATE: just updated to 13-Jul-2018 build (not sure of the build number) and still the same as above.

I’m not sure what you mean. I’m surprised Windows is smart enough to group the console window with the FileBot window.

Do you mean the console window? You can use and pin FileBot as opposed to FileBot (console) if you prefer not to see the console.

So the problem you wanted to illustrated in the previous post is that there's a console window? Or what the console window shows? Or something else?

The normal GUI launcher would be filebot.launcher.exe as oppose to the CLI launcher filebot.exe.

Ok.. i found it it here:
Image

if i run "filebot" (which is filebot.launcher.exe) NOT console, or platform, it opens the launcher properly as you said. However, when I pin that same open window, then click the pinned link, it opens the console as well as the launcher

also, as you see in one of the previous screenshots, the start menu only shows console or uninstall

you see no open console:
Image

but only console can be pinned:
Image

so if i were to pin that, it would open console:

I have MacOS app store FileBot installed. After installing FileBot 4.8.2 I had to do the following to make command line work

Change filebot symlink

Code: Select all

sudo mv /usr/local/bin/filebot /usr/local/bin/filebot.wrong
cd /usr/local/bin
sudo ln -s /Applications/FileBot.localized/FileBot.app/Contents/MacOS/filebot.sh filebot
Change filebot.sh

Code: Select all

sudo vi /Applications/FileBot.localized/FileBot.app/Contents/MacOS/filebot.sh

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
#FILEBOT_HOME="/Applications/FileBot.app/Contents"
FILEBOT_HOME="/Applications/FileBot.localized/FileBot.app/Contents"
JAVA_HOME="$FILEBOT_HOME/PlugIns/jre-10.0.1.jre/Contents/Home"

If you take all the bits and pieces, then you can of course assembly something that runs, but it'll either require a standalone license, or the MAS license check will fail. Also, native libraries will not work due to code singing.

You can run filebot -script fn:sysinfo to run a self-check for yourself.

 I recommend using either the Mac App Store version, or the brew cask stand-alone version, but not both at the same time.

Just purchased an annual license, and registered one x64 ubuntu linux box with no issues using the latest build. Be interesting to see how well behaved the armhf box will be;) Both the payment and 'activation' processes were simple and straightforward, and the suggested layout you have for the downloads page looks good. I will swap over to a lifetime license when this one expires. Thanks for getting this up and running, and keeping this fantastic project going!

Registered here to report on my experiences with FreeBSD and to post some questions, but first of all: THANK YOU FOR UPDATING THE LINUX / UNIX BUILDS! And for providing this licensing option. Finally I can setup FileBot on my FreeNAS box for some automagic renaming action :)

Anyway, the only issue I noticed with FreeNAS 11 / FreeBSD 11 was that MediaInfo or JNA didn't work out of the box. To fix this, I downloaded this version of JNA and extracted it under lib/amd64 in the path where I extracted FileBot 4.8.2. The latest version of JNA didn't work due to FileBot expecting an earlier version, but it seemed to be fine with the 4.5.1 tagged one.

I noticed another issue with the update script, where it doesn't seem to work properly on FreeBSD, or at least reports some warnings / errors. The curl command used says that the -z option format isn't valid:

Code: Select all

Warning: Illegal date format for -z, --time-cond (and not a file name).
Warning: Disabling time condition. See curl_getdate(3) for valid date syntax.
The download finishes besides these warnings, but the gpgv command isn't found:

Code: Select all

./update-filebot.sh: gpgv: not found
I have the latest version of gnupg available installed on the jail that I'm running FileBot in, perhaps this command just doesn't exist on FreeBSD? Anyway, this is a minor / non-issue for me personally, just wanted to report this in case you are interested in improving compatibility for non-Linux systems.

I noticed that the filebot.sh script does some system architecture checks to determine the method of file information detection:

Code: Select all

# choose archive extractor / media characteristics parser
if uname -m | grep "86"; then
        # i686 or x86_64
        ARCHIVE_EXTRACTOR="SevenZipNativeBindings"  # use lib7-Zip-JBinding.so
        MEDIA_PARSER="libmediainfo"                 # use libmediainfo
else
        # armv7l or aarch64
        ARCHIVE_EXTRACTOR="ApacheVFS"               # use Apache Commons VFS2
        MEDIA_PARSER="ffprobe"                      # use ffprobe
fi
Is there a huge difference between ffprobe and libmediainfo for determining media characteristics? Main reason for asking is that the x86_64 architecture is reported as amd64 on FreeBSD, which causes this if - else branch to take the else branch on FreeBSD systems unless I'm mistaken. With the downloaded JNA library libmediainfo seems usable on my machine, so I just wanted to check if I should prefer that and edit the launch script accordingly.

1.
I'll add improved support for FreeBSD to the backlog. As a quick fix, I've update the install script to create symlinks for amd64 -> x86_64:
https://github.com/filebot/plugins/blob ... ler/tar.sh

2.
These warnings are normal if you run the incremental update script for the first time.

3.
gpgv is only required for the incremental update script. On Linux, it's part of GnuPG 1 and 2 but might be different on FreeBSD. Google says it's part of GnuPG 1 only on FreeBSD.

4.
The lower set of options is more compatible because it avoids native libraries. It should work exactly the same though. It'll require ffprobe though.

EDIT:

Please run filebot -script fn:sysinfo and post the output.

Purchasing a license is the last stage. What stage are you at?

Stage 1:
Install FileBot: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6057

Stage 2:
Call filebot and do your thing. The CLI tool will give you instructions on how to purchase & install a FileBot license then and there as necessary.

I already have 4.7.x running on the Linux box.

I purchased the licence just now via the /purchase link and have my Licence file in an email.

I can SSH in to the server and put the LIcence_XXX file somewhere if you like AFTER I have installed 4.8.2 via the .DEB file?

Yes, everything will be obvious once you start using the new release.

If you're using a Debian based OS, then you can use APT to install the latest FileBot package:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6028

If no license is installed, then filebot will fail on rename and print something like this, and so you how to install your license:

Code: Select all

License Error: UNREGISTERED
FileBot requires a valid license. Please run `filebot --license *.psm` to install your FileBot license.

I have to say I find subscription models for software (as opposed to services) a bit disgusting, though the pricing seems fair at least. Here's my philosophical objection: say I am happy with filebot as it exists at this present moment, and I don't necessarily agree with your vision / planned features for the project, why should I have to continue paying you when you're not even making (from my perspective) improvements to the software? A purely hypothetical example, but one that 100% captures how I feel about another certain piece of not-free software (*cough* Plex *cough*).

I'd say if this is really the path you're taking you should at least put out a roadmap of planned features and be a bit more regimented about your intake process for feature requests. If you have already done these things, apologies, but I was unable to locate them on your website.

1.
The current goal is to support as many platforms as possible, and make FileBot work well on all of them. Other than that, there's a never-ending stream of bug reports and feature requests here in the forums.

 There is no grand roadmap for the future, as FileBot is (after 10 years of development) a rather mature product and works perfectly well for the vast majority of users (though keeping it that way is a task in and of itself).

2.
Indeed, FileBot was an excellent piece of software back when it was free. But you can't hold that against me. You're not paying for the delta since last year. You're paying of FileBot as a complete product that does what it says. Think of it as return on investment (from the developer perspective).

Here's some interesting thoughts:
https://youtu.be/lTKuQQegNTs

The main point to take away from this, is aligning the interests of users and developers. The subscription model allows user to get FileBot for cheap (on the short term) which is good for users, and ensures strong incentive to keep my current users happy (instead of focusing on new users) which is also good for users.

 Personally, I dislike subscriptions as well, and this is why the 1 year license is not a subscription, but a simple one-time purchase. So you can (and have to) reevaluate if FileBot is worth $6 to you or not once a year.

 A life-time license / one-time purchase option is available, but it's significantly more expensive, so you can choose between a reasonably-priced subscription or an expensive one-time purchase. The choice is yours.

3.
Plex is great. What I dislike is that none of the developer are active in their forums, so you can never actually talk to anybody who's actually working on the thing. It's probably company policy, same as with all the other tech companies (Google, Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, Synology, QNAP, etc). That's because developers are expensive and as a company you don't want them to spend their time on non-engineering tasks, such as talking to users.

 FileBot is a one-man show, so I make company policy, and evidently, I'm still here talking to you, and hopefully have been able to earn your continued long-term business with this rather verbose reply.

@rednoah, I personally really like this software and I want you to be able to continue development and improvement. To that end, I will pay for its use. I think everyone here should think about this - don't we want continued development and support? I would really like it if this could be how you make a living, or a big piece of it, so that we benefit from having a bigger piece of your time (there is a selfish aspect to that I know). I have already purchased the Windows version from the Microsoft store, but have no problem with buying a yearly subscription to get properly licensed on my linux systems.

Along these same lines, I wanted to bring up an issue that may not have been discussed yet. What will you do with hosted providers that incorporate Filebot into a seedbox or VSP solution? Some provide end-to-end solutions that incorporate filebot and your amc script. Is there a licensing solution for these types of providers yet?

thanks!

2.
No idea. Last time I asked for some sort of revenue sharing, I never heard back. But that was when FileBot was still free.

One benefit of the new license system is that if FileBot 4.8.2 or higher is pre-installed, then you can use your personal license with that. Alternatively, custom solutions are certainly possible and I'm happy to talk if someone were to approach me in this regard.

Is the `filebot.sh` file not included in the portable ZIP package anymore (was in 4.7.9)? ==> https://get.filebot.net/filebot/FileBot ... rtable.zip

With, 4.7.9, I had the `filebot.sh` and the `update-filebot.sh` files in the ZIP package. Seems like with 4.8.2, it's not there anymore.

Question is, whether the 4.7.9 `.sh` files can be re-used with 4.8.2 (guessing Yes, but want to check).

UPDATE:
Upon further investigation, I found that the XZ file format package includes the shell files, but then it doesn't work on Ubuntu (not doing DEB for other reasons).

Code: Select all

./filebot.sh: 50: ./filebot.sh: Syntax error: newline unexpected (expecting ")")

Code: Select all

jd@plex:/usr/local/FileBot/4.8.2$ diff filebot.sh filebot.sh.fix-case
49c49
< ;
---
> esac
Seems like on line-50, `case` needs to be closed with an `esac` instead of a `;` :-)

There is now a Windows Portable ZIP package and a Linux / Unix / Posix Portable TAR package. If you're on Linux, you'll want to use the latter. The installer/tar.sh can be used as in installer on Linux.

2.
case fixed with r5757.

Would love to buy an expensive lifetime licence but did not see the link. Would you be able to post the link?

You’re not running the latest build. You might need to uninstall and then reinstall FileBot to make sure you’re running the latest build.

I thin kit's a fair price for such a great app.
Filebot is working for more than two years on my nas :)

That was the reason I bought the AppStore App in the first place, to support you.

@rednoah
life-time license? i hope i dont die in 50 years xD
its a shame that you dont work with microsoft store. now i have the win10 version and a version for all plattforms.
the price is rough but ok.... over the time the software will pay for itself

edit:
the two files i wanted to process without a license are in the excludes-list now.
filebot should only write the complete processed files in the excludes list.
thx

PS. I could not find the License purchase link anywhere on the website, had to dig on the forum to find the direct URL (https://www.filebot.net/purchase.html).

Is it hidden or blocked by adblockers perhaps?

new problem...
i have a synology with couchpotato, nzbget and plex running.
nzbget start a filebot script to sort (and rename) the files for plex.
but nzbget give me that error:

Code: Select all

error	Tue Aug 07 2018 13:09:13	Post-process-script filebot.sh for xxx failed (terminated with unknown status)
info	Tue Aug 07 2018 13:09:13	filebot: /bin/sh: : No such file or directory
thats the same error i have without your license.
i think nzbget runs filebot as wrong user.

is it possible to license the whole NAS and not every user for its own?

Neither. The idea is that you just start using FileBot, and then FileBot will open the purchase link for you then and there.

The main page will be updated as well of course on release, and it'll look something like this:

I'm fairly sure that this has been fixed with recent revisions of both FileBot and the amc script, since it'll force test run behavior if there's no license:

Mendeln wrote: 07 Aug 2018, 13:14 is it possible to license the whole NAS and not every user for its own?
Newer builds of the SPK / QNAP package already do this by storing the license file in the same location for all users, so a license imported as User A will subsequently work for User B as if that user had imported the license himself.

That is a strange error. How can you not have a working /bin/sh? I don't think it's related to filebot directly. The message might be trying to tell us the executable "/bin/sh: " doesn't exist, which points and a strange syntax error somewhere, because there definitely isn't an executable file path that ends with ": " colon space.

Hi Noah,

is it possible to get a test license for a few days? I want to try filebot node first on my QNAP until I buy a license.

You can try it without a license. It'll run and it'll ask for a license if you're doing something that requires a license. If you're using FileBot Node then you can use the Dry Run button.

Thanks for the lifetime access
FileBot License XXXX (Valid-Until: 2068-08-10) has been activated successfully.
I will consider it back paying you for the last decade for using it for free :P
was hoping for the $50 option that you first thought off, considering we are still beta testing this license thing :P

however, I do have a few concerns as to how the license recognizes the machine

some programs I use seem to think its a new pc every time I change kernels etc
others like TeamViewer seem to do it randomly I think its when I do a force package reinstall
my phone now shows my pc 100+ times in the list

so as the license is only up to 5 should I install it on the pc or just run the install from a docker station or some other virtual wrapper?

90% of the time I use ubuntu, but the way it's going down the Toilet I might be jumping ship soon

oh and can you start up some form of open source system so this can be continued when you leave and or worst case scenario die, the worst part about being a 1 man show great product being paid for but no dev redundancy

*sigh*
and this is what I hate about updates, now no longer in the software center or able to run from cmd prompt without using full path

That's the idea. The pricing does factor that into account a little bit.

MasterCATZ wrote: 10 Aug 2018, 20:57 I do have a few concerns as to how the license recognizes the machine
FileBot doesn't do anything like that. There is no hard limit and FileBot doesn't keep track of your machines online at all. However, if the same license were to get activated from many different IPs all around the world, then the system might send you an email to ask what's going on.

For obvious historic reasons, FileBot is already much more open-source than any other commercial tool. For obvious business reasons, I can't let you just clone the entire platform at the press of a button. Fortunately, the paid software model gives me incentive to not leave, in addition to my natural talent for not dying.

It's filebot and not fliebot.

I have no idea what that means, but I've seen similar errors when testing the SNAP package, and a reboot usually resolves the issue:

Code: Select all

[xcb] Most likely this is a multi-threaded client and XInitThreads has not been called
[xcb] Aborting, sorry about that.
java: ../../src/xcb_io.c:165: dequeue_pending_request: Assertion `!xcb_xlib_unknown_req_in_deq' failed.

 The DEB and SNAP packages include their own Oracle JRE so FileBot will completely ignore the JRE you may or may not have installed on your system.

Hello, I've just tried to install the windows version and it fails each time? The portable version says I need Java10 (64bit), but I only have a 32bit computer so can't install the 64bit version of java, and the installer version wont install because it doesn't like my processor. I'm running win7 Home Premium.

Unfortunately, 32-bit Windows 7 is not supported. 32-bit Windows 10 is supported via the Microsoft Store only at this point. I may reevaluate the need for 32-bit support with the next release if there's enough demand.

Sounds like you have a partial / incomplete file there:

Code: Select all

unexpected end of file or stream

OK, I will try the APT repository another day, thanks.

For the time being, I have downloaded the latest file and installed manually, which seems to have gone well.

I have also imported my Licence file and run the sysinfo script...

Probably just a random mismatch caused by tangled the series not being a known alias for Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure?

OK, a manually run command line test with an added --q "Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure" fixed it for now...

You can request additional series alias names to be added to the FileBot database here if you don't want to wait for TheTVDB to fix things on their end:

Wow, I never knew... that's really good of you!

However, this is a slightly tricky one... in that it _used_ to be called "Tangled the Series" for season 1 and for season 2 it has changed it's name to "Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure".

The URL in thetvdb is https://www.thetvdb.com/series/tangled-the-series but it's called "Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure".

@bluenoah (or yellownoah, rednoah, purplenoah, etc)...

Maybe I missed it, but with the new model, will the program not fully function after the year is up, or will new updates prompt for a renewal? I'm hoping that the last version I have installed when my time is up will continue to work, with a renewal required to update. If a renewal will be required regardless of updating or not, will that prevent the script from renaming as well, or will it only affect the GUI?

Don't get me wrong, already did the $6 purchase, and that is obscenely reasonable for an entire year. Just asking questions that others may have now or in the future. Might be a good idea to include such information on the homepage, so that someone will know just what to expect. (Including the fact that it doesn't auto-renew.)

Considering my lackus-fundus and the price, I might not get the lifetime. Not telling what will be happening 9 years from now ($6 * 9 = $54), and also, would rather feed you $6/year, so that you have a more consistent income, vs the $ up front and then nothing more in the future.

I would also like to encourage you to add in the ability to buy two or three years at a time ($6/yr, no discounts), as a convenience factor. And, if possible, a way to limit the number of machines a license can be used on, for your protection. You're providing a great product, and $6/yr is very reasonable, yet you just know there are going to be people who will try to cheat you by giving dozens of people their license to use so they don't have to buy it themselves.

Seems like you already got it. FileBot (regardless of version) will only work and rename files while a valid license is plugged in, and if it's expired then it'll remind you to purchase a new one (and stop working). So you will have to purchase a new license every year even if you stick with an older version of FileBot and never updated.

Having to many purchase options is somewhat confusing, but maybe a 3 year option might be reasonable, but then we're back to the ~15~20 USD price point that people didn't like previously. I'm looking into a auto-renewable yearly option, but this will be much more technically involved.

I do collect license activation statistics, so depending on the level of abuse, I will spend more or less time fine-tuning various license activation checks. I find the level of abuse to be surprisingly low so far though, but I guess that is to be expected with trusted early adopters such as yourself.

What about the ability to extend a license by activating a new one while one is already active? Someone could then add a year even if they have a couple of months remaining, and could be an alternative to buying multiple years at a time. Also adding an option (disabled by default) to pop up a reminder to the user when they have less than 2 weeks remaining. Should pop up only one time, remain until acknowledged, and have an option to remind in a week. Since it would disabled by default, it wouldn't be one of those unwanted annoying reminders.

Before I double clicked the license file (worked nicely to auto-install it, thank you!), I couldn't find anywhere to get information on buying/entering a license, prior to trying to rename files that is. Am I missing it, or is there no "Help/About" option? Wouldn't surprise me if I'm being blind.

That would be probably be more tricky and error prone than an auto-renew subscription purchase. Expiration reminders is probably something I'll look into once the first few licenses are about to expire. It's not an issue for the GUI, as you can simply purchase one at the spot when required, plug it in, and continue. The CLI is more tricky since things are generally unattended, though I might just add a warning message to the console output.

There's no Help / About / FAQ regarding license management. I might add something to the FAQ but somehow everyone has figured it out so far. It seems to be quite intuitive.

The idea is to let users just run FileBot and try it first, and to only ask for a purchase once you're at the point where things are already guaranteed to be working well, as to minimize support and refunds.

I've added the purchase options to the front page, because some users seem to prefer to buy a license first. Plus making it very clear that FileBot is a paid purchase now is somewhat important to manage expectations.

I assume you are referring to making it work with Paddle? Not sure how it works and such, but if it has the ability to add a year to an existing subscription, that should be most of the work right there. If it can be done without much of a headache, I'm sure you'll make it possible. Would allow for uninterrupted subscriptions, without losing time for renewing early.

Wonderful. If you add it, it'll be nice to have an optional reminder vs companies that force 90/60/30/15/7/5/3/2/1 day reminders on you. Ease of use and user friendliness... It's why so many people are willing to chip in the little money you ask for in return for what you offer. :)

Yep, right now it's all simple one-time purchases, which work quite a bit different from subscriptions, though I haven't looked into in in detail.

I'm more inclined to send out an email reminder, that you can then choose to ignore or star, with maybe a calendar attachment. Let's see what thoughts people have on the topic over the next year. Your feedback is much appreciated.

Hi,

I bought FileBot on MacOSX 2 years ago, because this application is really amazing.
I'am using the filbert GUI but also the command line interface (CLI) installed using homebrew-cask.

With the last update the filebot GUI interface is registered, but the CLI version 4.8.2 is not registered.
How can I get my license files (.psm) to activate the CLI version of FileBot ?

Best regards,

Have you tried the --license option on the CLI? Also, I would think that it should already use the one you used with the GUI. Do you have filebot installed in multiple locations?

On the command line, try this:

Code: Select all

filebot --license "Path-to-the-license-file.psm"

Hi Wolfie,

The problem is not the command but the license file.

I bought my Filbot License on the Apple AppStore, and I want to register the FileBot command line tools (CLI) installed using Homebrew cask.

I know the command to register the CLI but I don't know where to find the license files.

Please give me the "path-to-the-license" or told me how i can download the license file or generate it when you bought the license on the AppStore.

Best Regards

Unfortunately, Apple does not allow (and never has) CLI tools in the Mac App Store, so there's no CLI tools in the Mac App Store purchase:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5983

Unfortunately, there's now no longer an alternative free version you could use instead. It's not possible to change a MAS purchase into a universal license, but if you PM me with your MAS purchase confirmation then I'll issue you a 1 year complimentary license for the non-MAS version.

Hi rednoah,

I've decided to bought Filebot more than one year ago (when we were not obliged to) because this software is really cool.

For sure apple doesn't allow CLI tools in the AppStore, but this is the reason why, FileBot is accessible throught homebrew cask.

On my mac mini, before the last update, I was using Filebot v4.8.2 from the AppStore and CLI tools v4.7.9 from homebrew cask (I'm using scripts with jdownloader to call filelbot). and all was working perfectly.

If i understand well, people like me who have bought a license on the App Store can't use it for the CLI tools on any platform.

In my opinion you have to be clear on your website, and explain that if you buy a license on stores you can't use it for CLI tools.

If we want great features in FileBot, I understand that we have to pay (nobody is working for nuts) and this is what i have done as an early Filebot adopter.

But it sound strange to me to hear that my license can't be use for CLI tools, and on the website we can read the following :

Code: Select all

------
Purchase life-time universal license US$54.00
A valid license is required to unlock FileBot.
A single license is valid on all platforms and can be used on multiple machines.
Microsoft Store and Mac App Store purchases do not require a separate license.
------
I"am a french guy and my english is not perfect this is probably the reason why the last sentence seems ambiguous to me.

anyway, just let me know what are the document you need as proof of my purchase and how to send you a private email ?

Best regards.

1.

Code: Select all

Microsoft Store and Mac App Store purchases do not require a separate license.
The Microsoft Store, the Mac App Store and my FileBot Universal License system are completely separate. So if you make a purchase via one of those systems, it'll be valid for that one system. Unfortunately, in the case of the Mac App Store, that one purchase does not include the CLI tools. It also does not include Subtitle related features. As a "funny" side node, Apple does not allow references to features that are not in the app in the app description.

2.
I understand your concerns, and that's why I'm offering free (albeit the usual 1 year time limited) universal licenses. Please PM me your purchase confirmation (e.g. the email you got from Apple, or screenshot, as pdf or png shared via google drive or dropbox) and your name plus email.

3.
Alternatively, you can keep just using FileBot 4.7.9 as it's still free and available and still mostly works AFAIK.

I'm rebuilding a raspberrypi box from a friend that uses Filebot 4.7.14 version, and it's working ok. I went to the official website trying to download maybe a bugfix version, but now there's a "Buy a license" option for 4.8.x. IMHO the price is *more than fair* for everything this software provides, but I miss:

- A statement on the website saying the changes between these major versions, 4.7.x and 4.8.x, specially about this licensing model;
- A statement saying exactly which features are binded to a license. Maybe for what this friend uses Filebot for, he doesnt need a license (although I will suggest him to buy one for the sake of helping the developer).

This now is a more specific question and you can answer me with a direct message as well: does compilng from source for personal purposes (and not creating a third-party binary since I read the dont be a dick license) still needs a license as well?

rednoah, please don't get me wrong with the above questions ok.

1.
This very thread explains the new license model. I do not intended to clutter the front page with details and history. There's all sorts of details that might be useful for one person or another, but if I add all of them, nobody would read any of them. The forums are the right place to read up on release notes, history and detailed questions & answers.

2.
FileBot requires a license. It's that simple. Having difference licenses for different feature sets is not planned. While it's true that currently some features work without a license as a courtesy / intentional oversight / for evaluation purposes for new users, this may or may not hold true in the future.

3.
The source code is for educational purposes only. You will not be able to recreate a working FileBot build without also recreating your own server-side infrastructure and applying for your own API keys for all the services you want to support in your custom build. Suffice to say, creating your own build from source is not feasible nor officially supported.

Thanks for the detailed response. You've done lots of support in the past in this forum and in the project itself even when it didn't require a license, so I'm glad for that and I'm going to say to my friend that he now needs to buy a license, period.

Yes. Thanks to the new system, there's no more ambiguities with different versions and platforms, and so it's up to the end user to make a simple purchase / don't purchase decision.

I purchased FileBot via the Windows Store. Will it be possible to the .pms at a discount for use on other platforms?

It's quite silly that we have to purchase the same software multiple times just so that we can use it across the different platforms (e.g. Synology and Mac) that we own.

It's silly indeed. Feel free to remind Microsoft / Apple / Google that their respective Stores are a bit silly in that regard. You wouldn't be the first to be annoyed at how things work nowadays.

 Fortunately, I have my own system now, which allows me to give you more options and choices. If you PM me your purchase confirmation + name + email then I can issue you a free test license.

Sorry, I hope this is the right forum. I had bought the cross-platform license and it was working fine up until August 15th. Now I get the following error:

Code: Select all

No such property: license for class: Script1
groovy.lang.MissingPropertyException: No such property: license for class: Script1

        at net.filebot.cli.ArgumentProcessor.run(ArgumentProcessor.java:36)
        at net.filebot.Main.main(Main.java:126)

Failure (°_°)

Has anyone seen this?

Thanks.

Until Noah responds, try reinstalling and also clearing the cache (command line: "filebot -clear-cache" I think is the command). Also, make sure you're not mixing versions from different sources, ie, Microsoft store vs the download from the homepage of this site.

What does filebot -script fn:sysinfo say?

 You're probably using a pre-release revision. Please read No such property: license for class: Script1 for details.

No idea. X window server bugs. Probably nothing you can do. A reboot will probably fix things.

I downloaded 4.8.2 on my MacMini but every time I try to install it, it gets to the 'Validating Packages' part and ends with an installation error.

If the macOS installer (PKG) doesn't work, then you can try the app bundle instead, install via brew cask:

The FileBot cross-platform license system has only been available for a short time. If you have bought FileBot a long time ago, then presumably you bought it on the Mac App Store or Microsoft Store? Please PM me your purchase confirmation (screenshot or pdf shared via google drive preferred).
