DSM 7.0 Synology Package Center cannot be installed

Post by kms6402 »

I recently bought a Filebot and wanted to use it on Synology NAS.
However, it cannot be installed in Package Center.
The error phrase is

Code: Select all

"The package file is corrupt. Please download it again or contact the package developer."
Currently, it is installed and used in Docker, but it is somewhat inconvenient.
I can't install it from Package Center, but I wonder if there is a way.

Likely an issue specific to DSM 7.0? The package itself is certainly not corrupt since it's working for everyone else.

You could trying contacting Synology support to check why DSM 7.0 might not be backwards-compatible with a given pre-DSM 7.0 package. They might also be able to help you find more detailed error logs.

EDIT:
DSM_Developer_Guide_7_0_Beta wrote: Field Name: os_min_ver Earliest version of DSM that is required to run the package. The value should be at least 7.0-40000 after DSM 7.0.

TL;DR It's explicitly impossible for a single SPK to be compatible with both DSM 6 and DSM 7, so you'll have to wait for a dedicated DSM 7 package rewrite, which is not a priority at this point in time because most users are still using DSM 6.

Now that DSM 7 has gone public beta I would love to try it out, but can't live without FileBot in my NAS.
I would second the request to have a DSM 7 version.

Thanks rednoah !

Just moved to DSM7.0 Beta 41222
So I lost filebot, if there is no update by the time I have to renew my subscription, well it will be tiny-media-manager with there new renaming system
Hopefully RedNoah will have the filebot node ready before DSM7.0 goes RC

all the best

AFAIK, TMM is a Desktop application. If you don't mind using your Desktop, then you can always process files remotely from your Desktop via the network shares. Depending on your level of access and Linux expertise, it's also possible to manually unpack java and filebot on device via SSH, i.e. treat your NAS as generic Linux device.

As my Synology 920+ can run docker containers why not do it that way :-)
I gues the official FileBot docker container is run through command line?
But I found this one: https://github.com/jlesage/docker-filebot who has an GUI, would this be a good alternative?

Yes, running an entire Desktop environment on the NAS can be an effective alternative if you have a high-end device:

Hi RedNoah, you may be interested by that

For your info the filebot node task scheduler is running on my Synology every 2 hours smoothly (it was setup like that BEFORE moving to Beta, so it works under DSM 7.0 Beta 41222, thats nice !
For what I have have understood for other apps on github discussion, to move to DSM7.0 it is mainly an issue of right and access.
So probably the GUI for filebot node dont have the access rights, while the scheduler do have that rights ?
Yes I can use the windows version of filebot too

I use TMM as I want to be able to choose in which language the .info is (I speak several languages, and never watch something not being in the native language)
So a French movie will have the info in French, same for Spanish, english, Portuguese and Italian
and TMM tags subtitles properly most of the time, something that filebot according to forum can not do ? am I right ?

@TDoc

Interesting... weird thing is that after my upgrade Filbebot itself was removed but Filbotnode is still installed, but it's not under "installed apps" anymore, I didn't bother to check if it was working... but yes still working when executing my daily task...

@rednoah

Can you look into this? I also read it's mainly about access rights, same was with the Plex app, but I could be wrong, no expert here

Although it's not possible to make the SPK package work at this point in time, treating your NAS as generic Linux device is of course still possible. You'll have to log in via SSH, use curl to download the portable package, unpack the tar archive, create symlinks, etc. That's what the SPK does on installation. But if things are already installed, either via SPK or by doing it manually, then it'll likely continue to work. In the end it's just files on your file system after all.

So If I understand well, it is the the install and GUI that does not work, the core engine is working, hopefully it will be not to time consuming to adapt and get a compatible package
Being one of the first one to be on DSM7.0 is in my eye a selling point for new customers, and keep your existing Synology customers happy

It look like PLEX is already on DSM 7.0

Have a good day

Looks like some of the security features that are now enforced with DSM 7.0 were added with DSM 6.2 so we have something to test with there.

I've updated the java-installer package to possibly be more compatible with DSM 7.0 and up:
https://github.com/rednoah/java-installer/releases

 Tested with DSM 6.2 only.

 If someone could test it with DSM 7.0 that would be appreciated. Maybe it works. Maybe it doesn't. Should work, but DSM 7.0 might categorically reject backwards-compatible packages.

To be sure, downloaded the java-installer-2.15-noarch.spk from provided link

in DSM 7.0-41222, go to package center --> Manual install --> uploaded the java-installer-2.15-noarch.spk
get message "invalid file format. Please contact the package developer"

hope this helps

Does the package installer log give any details?

Code: Select all

sudo cat /var/log/synopkg.log

Code: Select all

sudo cat /var/log/packages/java-installer.log
Unless the package is really invalid for some reason, I can only assume that DSM 7.0 really does not allow DSM 6.2 compatible packages, which would be rather inconvenient for us...

@rednoah

What would be needed to build a DSM 7.0 compatible package?
Node.js v12 is availlable as package on DSM7, so I gues (as for as I understand) only Java is needed.
And some secuirity adjustements? For the Plex mediaserver there's already a DSM7 compatible package (still beta, but working fine here), maybe you can ask there?
I'm no expert only wanted to help, if I can test something let me now.

I've added java-installer-2.15-dsm7-noarch.spk which explicitly forces 7.0-40000 or higher, so perhaps it'll go at least a little bit further:

Tried to install java-installer-2.15-dsm7-noarch.spk at first got warning "3rd party blabla..", then all seemed to be going well, but after about 30 sec I got error "can't update java installer".
UPDATE: tried to install a 2nd time and all went fine!

But as you can see in the link above, it says installed 2.15, online availlable 2.13, is this correct?

IDK. I guess you need to first uninstall and then install the beta package.

That's normal. That just means the package repository is on 2.13 but the package you have installed is 2.15 which isn't in the repository yet.

1.
I've uploaded a new DSM 7 build for FileBot here:
https://get.filebot.net/filebot/BETA/

2.
FileBot Node DSM 7 build is here:
https://github.com/filebot/filebot-node/releases

:!: This one won't work for one reason or another. The DSM developer guide is very incomplete (e.g. nginx reverse_proxy config, Task Scheduler API, etc) so this one will take lots of back-and-forth testing, if it's possible at all (without removing DSM integration entirely and just running as an independent web service like Plex does) to make it work as before.

I just installed them both without any problems, filebotnode opens as before, also gave the new internal user "Filebot" access to my download & media folder.
Now I will do some testing and report back.

Follow up:

Filebot is running and I can open Filebotnode, however when pressing dry run / executing & scheduling is not working, I gues due the lack of admin rights?
On the Tools menu license/configure/help is working but system info not.

When activating license, I can select the license but when pressing activate I gues nothing happens.
Then did ssh to my NAS --> filebot --license "mylicensefile" (who was not in a directory who has FileBot internal user rights) and FileBot was activated.

Let me now if I can do some other tests.

Yep, that just means that the app that is running inside your browser is served by DSM, but that app then can't connect to the node service running inside the NAS, which is expected since we can no longer install the reverse_proxy configuration ourselves.

Since we cannot do the reverse_proxy configuration ourselves anymore due to limited permissions, we now have to rely on DSM APIs doing it for us, in some unknown pre-defined manner:
https://github.com/filebot/filebot-node ... f/resource

I'd start by checking if DSM has created nginx configuration files in the default location in response to installing our package:

Code: Select all

ls -l /usr/local/etc/nginx/conf.d
or perhaps somewhere else:

Code: Select all

find / -name '*.conf' &2>/dev/null

1.
dsm.filebot-node.conf has a suspicious Last-Modified date. Probably just a left-over from a previous installation on DSM 6.

 If you uninstall FileBot Node, does this file disappear?

 If you delete this file, and then install FileBot Node DSM7, is this file created anew?

2.
The logs might indicate if reverse_proxy configuration was done, or not, or if there was an error... or it might not, worth a try though:

Code: Select all

sudo cat /var/log/synopkg.log

You where right it was a leftover from DSM6.
Uninstalled Filbotnode, file still present, so I deleted it, reinstalled Filebotnode but no new file was created.
I'll do a search for .conf file in other locations and see if I can find something related to Filebotnode.

Acquire usr-local-linker for filebot-node that suggests that we should see log entries for all our resource entries. But no log related to webservice / service / reverse_proxy / etc so I guess it's a dead end for now.

I've found nothing either only a a file dsm.filebot-node.conf in var/tmp/nginx/test/plugin_config/conf.d but dated 29/9/2020 so I gues also a leftover of DSM6 (same content as posted above).
I think for the moment I will use Filebot as a command line tool, and run task through task manager I gues.
If you find anything I'll check this forum now and then so I can test.

You could try contacting Synology support. They might be able to tell us how reverse_proxy configuration is supposed to work on DSM 7.

@rednoah

Did you already read the DSM7.0 developer guide?

https://global.download.synology.com/do ... 0_Beta.pdf

I saw your post on the community forum, also did a post in the DSM 7.0 beta discussion and made a support ticket with Synology.
I'll keep you informed.

Yep, that's the docs I'm looking at. In any case, I've ordered a DS120J for testing so maybe we can make some progress once I have my own test device.

Cool thx.
I got an answer from Synology but nothing new, typical support people anwser:
"Since DSM7.0, we limited the permission of packages.
Packages will not be able to access the root permission due to security concerns.
We are sorry for this inconvenience."
You want me to ask something more detailled while ticket is still open?

Well, their Developer documentation explicitly mentions a reverse_proxy service / web service / resource which is supposed to work without root permissions, and that seems to not quite work yet work as advertised for unknown reasons. You could ask them to forward the question to a developer so that you might get a technical answer and not a canned response.

I got this answer from Synology:

"Hi Customer,
Thank you for contacting Synology support.
Would you please provide us the document you saw about this statement?
"According to the DSM7.0 developer documentation wich explicitly mentions a reverse_proxy service / web service / resource which is supposed to work without root permissions"
I could double confirm it with developers."

What should I answer?

Merry x-mas!

Got an answer from Synology:

Developers have installed filebot and filebot-node in DSM6.2 but they cannot see request "webservice" in resouces.
Since you have mentioned this could work before, would you please provide us more detailed info?
The version of filebot is 4.9.2 and filebot-node is 0.3.1.

We have a DSM 7.0 package (FileBot Node 0.3.2) here:
https://github.com/filebot/filebot-node ... /tag/0.3.2

And it's using the resource config here:
https://github.com/filebot/filebot-node ... f/resource

The main question is:
* Where does DSM create the corresponding nginx configuration file?
 Please read the FAQ and How to Request Help.

How do you use the "user-defined script" when editing this task for the filebot to run? I mean, I think I know what attributes to use for the AMC to work, but how do you get to the filebot program and execute it from the task manager?

Would you mind sharing how your "user-defined script" is?

Mine is still from the DSM 6 version and since updating to the new DSM 7 filebot node version it does not work anymore, but it still is: "/usr/local/filebot-node/task 10"

Quite simple, make sure Filebot is working, then with an editor make a file "name".sh put in there your filebot command, go to Synology task manager and make the script run when you want.

Is there any news? I would like to use FileBot again on my NAS. So far I understand it does still work but only the GUI doesn't work? I reinstalled the program so my previous tasks are probably gone. What is the best way to get up and running again?

Tried to install 4.9.3 OVER 4.9.2 it failed
uninstalled 4.9.2 and install 4.9.3 status is RUNNING

Installed filebot node 0.3.2 OVER the 0.3.1 without issue

Opened file bot not pop out in a new tab port 5452 with same IP (should not it be in a windows inside the DSM 7 ?)
I could set my preferences, like paths, naming conventions
I loaded my licence
I can see now there is a menu "tools ->configure" for open subtitle credentials :o
Closed that tab, reopen firlebot node everything looks like there

click execute nothing, apparently (in the tasks low part of the screen), going to look for the logs

First of all, thanks for releasing a new version. I've installed the new versions on my NAS (DS218+). I did a full reinstall of everything including your java package. Java is confirmed installed and FileBot commands work in the SSH teminal and it has permissions configured to access the folders. But for some reason FileBot node isn't doing anything. The console stays empty no matter where I click. Is it confirmed working on your NAS?

EDIT:
I found that the GUI is trying to retrieve the information from a JS file but it gets a 401 unauthorized error https://prnt.sc/x4eo7x

What does the filebot-node.log say? What does the network console (i.e. Chrome ➔ View ➔ Developer ➔ Developer Console) inside your browser say?

There is nothing in the log but I did find that the app.js is not accessible and gives a 401 (Unauthorized) error on load and when executing a task.

Here is a more detailed screenshot of the network tab: https://prnt.sc/x4fmvd

1.
There is always something in the log. Because it'll print something on startup.

2.
401 Unauthorized likely means that the node service is generally running, but somehow Synology DSM login integration doesn't work. If you login into DSM, then those session cookies should allow you to use FileBot Node. It works for me. Let's see if it works for other random users, or not.

Re: DSM 7.0 Synology Package Center cannot be installed

I normally use a reverse proxy for my NAS, but that don't seem to work at all and the page doesn't even load. Now I opened a incognito browser tab and logged in locally by ip on port 5000, but that still doesn't work.

That's just random ExtJS logging caused the 401 Unauthorized response. We'll want to look at the filebot-node.log on the server-side.

i.e. SSH into NAS and then run:

Code: Select all

sudo cat /var/packages/filebot-node/target/filebot-node.log
 Please read the FAQ and How to Request Help.

Strange. The HTTP_COOKIE should be all it needs.

Please open this in your browser to see if your DSM 7 still uses SynoToken for CSRF mitigation:

Code: Select all

http://<IP>:5000/webman/login.cgi
 Please read the FAQ and How to Request Help.

This is the response

This is the latest log in filebot node

Code: Select all

That might explain things. Try disabling Improve protection against cross-site request forgery attacks in the Security settings to see if that makes a difference. (NOTE: might require restart and relogin)

Yes needs to logoff and login again after disabling the security feature and work at my place too

thanks a lot for that work, truly appreciated, will do an additional donation.
For the diverse tools I am using on my synology, you are the first one with a functional software on DSM 7 !!

@RedNoah
Argh, no it is not picking anything there is a "Permission denied" issue
I am using my account with full admin rights to enter.
I use the same account to map that [Dawnloads_raw] to my pc for example
I tried in SSH to delete a file with that same account without any issue

found the solution !!

right click on the shared folder where the file are present / where filebot is looking at (in my case it is a shared forlder called /volume2/Downloads_raw) -->Tab Permission
Filebot was not there, so -->Create -> User or group select Filebot, Type -> Allow , Apply to ->All
then below select read and write permissions, click done and then save (filebot is now on the list for who got the permission)

do it again for where the files are going to be moved and stored (in my case it is a shared folder called /volume2/Video)

for the record and google search engine the error looked like that:

Code: Select all

filebot -script 'fn:amc' /volume2/Downloads_raw --output /volume2/Video --action move -non-strict --order Airdate --conflict auto --lang en --def 'music=y' 'unsorted=y' 'clean=y' 'deleteAfterExtract=y' 'seriesFormat=Series/{ny}/{episode.special ?
