I'm sure that reading the few forum posts on this might contain the answer, but its seriously eluding me.

anyone have a FileBot CLI command string that gets filebot to successfully process Music Videos with an output that Plex/Emby/Something understands?

I've tried a number of things (that all end in epic failure) and I know some have gotten it to work (seemingly) but I'm not finding the answer.

Any CLI examples would be amazingly helpful

Does Plex even have a naming standard for Music Videos? If so, what online database would it use to lookup metadata?


Music is typically handled via embedded ID3 tags. Which Music Videos typically do not have. Music Videos will be difficult, since Plex / Emby / etc will have somewhat limited support for those, as music videos likely aren't a common use case and thus receive relatively little engineering effort.


In FileBot, you can use --db AcoustID same as processing any other audio file. This may or may not work. If fpcalc can generate an audio fingerprint from the audio stream, and if that then matches something in the AcoustID / MusicBrainz database, then FileBot may be able to rename some of those music videos as if they were normal audio files. But the "Best Naming Scheme for Plex for Music Videos" is still something you'd have to figure out by yourself with trial & error even if FileBot can identify and rename the files.

was what I attempted, and the output I was getting was below. The files do open up and play. Is this a file type issue I assume?

fpcalc apparently cannot decode audio streams from *.mpg files. Bad luck. FileBot won't be able to identify / process these files.

That makes sense and was what I was thinking. I'm going to try to convert the files to MP4 (or something else) and then try again. Thanks for your input!
