Browser Interface for Manual Movie Matching

Post by Tdragon86 »

Hello FileBot Team,

First, I’d like to thank you for the work you’ve done with FileBot—it’s been a reliable and powerful tool for organizing media libraries.

I’d like to suggest a feature that could greatly improve accuracy when matching movies: adding a browser-style interface for manual searches using TMDb or IMDb. Currently, the “Edit Match” function is helpful but not always accurate, and often doesn’t provide enough context (such as cover art or full metadata) to confirm that the selected movie is correct.

What I have in mind would be something similar to what Media Companion offers: a built-in browser panel that lets users manually search TMDb or IMDb, view results with cover art and detailed info, and then select the correct title directly. This would make it much easier to resolve cases where automatic matching struggles or when multiple versions of a title exist.

I think such a feature would provide users with more control and confidence when organizing their collections, and it would complement FileBot’s already excellent automation tools.

Please Email me at [email protected] and let me know your opinion

Thank you for considering this suggestion, and for continuing to develop such a useful application.

Best regards,
Travis Scott

:?: Can you provide a screenshot or sample file paths as text? So that we can see what you can see. We would like to first see at which point and in which context you're struggling to make a decision, and then when we have an exact understanding of the problem at hand, we can talk about possible solutions.

FEATURE REQUEST:

A "movie selection browser" where you open a browser window loading the page for the selected movie, which then allows the user to continue browsing to other movies (e.g. via search, via clicking on links, navigating around, by directory, by actors, etc) via the web as usual. A Confirm button would check the current page URL for a TMDB / IMDB ID and then set that as movie match.
