Best practice for handling multi-episode files with Plex naming?

Post by Forgual »

Hi,

I’m currently setting up FileBot for TV shows that often come as multi-episode files (e.g. S01E01E02, S02E05-06).

I’d like to ask:

What’s the recommended naming format for multi-episode files to ensure Plex detects them correctly?

Is it better to split files before renaming, or keep them as a single file with combined episode numbers?

Any pitfalls when using {episode} / {episodenumber} with multi-episode media?

Curious to hear how others handle this in their workflow.

Thanks!

:arrow: You’ll want to use {plex.id} to organize files. That’ll take care of everything:

Format: Select all

{ plex.id }

:idea: You can use {plex.name} if you just want the file name part of the Plex path:

Format: Select all

{ plex.name }

:idea: The Plex naming standard for multi-episode files is the S01E01-E3 range style.
:idea: Please read the FAQ and How to Request Help.
