Filebot/Java problem

Post by Trumpybob »

Hi all, I'm a newby here, and I have a problem that I am hoping someone can help me with. I have been using FileBot fo about 18 months and it has saved me a heap of time renaming my media files. Now, when I try to open it a message tells me that "This application requires a Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0". When I click OK I am taken to a Java Download page. Although I have the latest java installed I download anyway. After downloading I am taken to another page that asks to verify and then tells me that it is unable to verify that Java is installed. Consequently I am now unable to use FileBot which really annoys me, as I have almost become dependant on it.
I am using Windows 7 with Firefox. Can anybody help please, or is this a Java problem. I have tried re installing both Filebot and Java to no avail. I'm no computer whiz, just a frustrated 70 year old who can blunder about a bit, so simple answers (if there are any) please.

A few tries of installing, uninstalling, rebooting, etc will probably do the trick, I'd try to remove everything, java, filebot, make sure the folders have been deleted, etc, reboot, install everything, reboot, try again. Always use the latest Java.

And make sure there's no weird anti-virus keeping Java from installing correctly and registering things in the registry.

EDIT: The latest filebot would at least require Java 1.7.0 so if it's asking for 1.6.0 it's not the latest filebot.

Thanks for trying to help. Tried uninstalling and re installing both Java and FileBot 4 times, and rebooting between each install and uninstall. I've used Revo uninstaller to make sure I remove everything, all to no avail. At the moment I cant find any reference to Java on my computer, yet when I try to install Java it tells me it is already installed and would I like to re install it. I say yes and then it tells me that this action is only valid for products that are currently installed. So Java is telling me that is installed and also not installed This is obviously a Java problem that I am unable to rectify as I am now unable to even download Java, so it looks like I have to say goodbye to FileBot. Thanks again for trying to help, but until FileBot runs without Java it looks like I'm Stuffed.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried the Microsoft Fixit install/uninstall app to no avail. Java still tells me that it is installed but then it tells me it isn't, but nothing I have tried can find any trace of Java. Is it worth installing to somewhere else? If I can, I don't suppose FileBot will find it. As I said, I'm no computer whiz, just stumbling around in the dark most of the time.

You should be able to make it work by using the portable packages of both java and filebot.

You'll just need to grab the Server JRE (which is java without the installer)
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/ ... 31105.html
(you must be on 64-bit Windows though)

Then grab the filebot portable and edit filebot.cmd and change the command to use the absolute path to the java executable. Then just run filebot.cmd and it'll work.

Can't not work since all we did is just copying and extract archives, never actually running any installers.

Problem 1. I have previously used portable version but I'm not sure what you mean with the rest of it. As I explained I'm a bit off a Dummy
Problem 2. I'm on 32 bit Windows 7.
Going to try Filebot on my Laptop (Windows 8) and plug my portable HD in and see what happens.

Well, then the Java-portable/ServerVM won't work for 32-bit. No idea, I'm out of options here. You can try to check on some more Java specific forums if they can help you getting it installed.

Hi rednoah and friends, and thanks for all your suggestions in trying to get me sorted. I really appreciate your time and patience, alas to no avail. This has to be a Java specific problem and I'll have to try something else. Thanks again
