Can't get symlinks working

Post by ArkaneArkade »

Hey all,

I'm trying to use FileBot to automatically create symlinks for a usb drive into my main movies folder, so that my media player won't keep cleaning up everything. I have this working successfully enough for movies, because I created the symlinks myself, but this isn't really all that good for TV shows. However, if I try to create the links in FileBot, I get an error "Unsupported Operation: createSymbolicLink". Is there anything that I can change to get this working?

I'm on a Mac v10.9.2, and Java is v7 u51. Anyone any ideas for me?

Are you sure your FileBot is running with Java 7 and not the possibly pre-installed Java 6? Try Java 8 for good measure.

Could be a permissions issue as well so try running as admin.

Also if you run filebot from console you should get more error output on the cmdline.

I didn't even know there was a preinstalled one, but that seems to be it exactly. However, I've uninstalled 6 now and when I try to run FileBot I get a system message "In order to run FileBot, you need a Java SE 6 Runtime" Is there any way for me to tell it to use 7 instead?

- I've actually just discovered I'm using the .app version of FileBot. I've gone and downloaded the .jar instead and it's working perfectly, so problem fixed. Thank you very much for the help rednoah.

Sorry, I'm not on Mac. I can only tell you that you definitely need Java 7 or higher for the symlink feature to work.
