brew not working

Post by Tass5233 »

Hi there,

I really need some help please,

Ive installed brew using the terminal instructions. I then tried to install brew cask. This failed and it asked me to install GIT, using
brew install git , which I tried, this failed with an error saying install brew install gcc, which I tried, and this failed with an error saying brew install gcc, which I tried, This failed as well, so I downloaded GIT from http://git-scm.com/download/mac and its still failing with the errors Error: Failure while executing: -L /usr/local/Cellar/git/2.2.0/share/git-gui/lib/Git\ Gui.app/Contents/MacOS/Wish
Warning: Bottle installation failed: building from source.
Error: git cannot be built with any available compilers.
To install this formula, you may need to:
brew install gcc

It also mentioned brew doctor? which I tried to run, but then thought I shouldn't make the suggested changes without asking for help,

I'll paste the terminal output below, Im sure something really small is going wrong, but Im a complete newbie at shell scripts and terminals etc, Im just trying to get this to work so I can run the amc script, please help someone! I'll be so grateful!

Thank you for any help,

Qaizer

Have you tried to Install the Command Line Tools for Xcode: https://developer.apple.com/downloads?

The easiest way is probably to get Xcode from App Store first, and hope that the rest sets itself up afterwards with brew.

This post should be very helpful:
http://railsapps.github.io/xcode-comman ... tools.html

And maybe this:

Re: brew not working

Post by rednoah »

Try installing brew again after installing the Command Line Tools.

Running brew update && brew cleanup might help.

To clarify, I'm not sure if this could be causing it but I am running Mountain Lion, and therefore installed the Command Line Tools for Mountain Lion, perhaps the Home Brew is set to work on Yosemite only? In which case I would need to update (which I would really rather not do)

I am also considering uninstalling home brew (and reinstalling it), i found the below script from http://zanshin.net/2012/07/31/uninstall ... tall-brew/

Do I just copy and paste this, or do you know if I need to change anything..? This is my first time using Terminal so Im still not clear,

Code: Select all

$ cd `brew --prefix`
$ rm -rf Cellar
$ brew prune
$ rm -rf Library .git .gitignore bin/brew README.md share/man/man1/brew
$ rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/Homebrew
Thank you for all your help,

Hi,

Sorry I didn't see you comment about installing brew again, so I uninstalled and reinstalled brew, but Im still getting the same error, incidentally the terminal provided the line to uninstall so I used that. I ran brew doctor, ill paste that below, it doesn't mean anything to me, but hopefully it might to you, all I got from it is that XQuartz and Xcode is outdated, so Im installing XQuartz now but not really optimistic that that will resolve the issue,

I think you're just generally outdated. Is this still one of these 32-bit machines?

You can of course try to do things manually. In your case brew seems to take more time and effort than it is supposed to save...

Here's how you do it manually:
* Install Java 8 and make sure "java" command works
* Download the latest *.app.tar.gz and then find the "filebot" executable and symlink it to /usr/bin. Make sure "filebot" command works

This should be straightforward if you know what you're doing. If your system does not support Java 8 then you will not be able to run the latest version of FileBot.

Hi there,

No I am on a 2011 Macbook Pro, I believe this is a 64-bit machine. But, yes I do believe I would need to upgrade to Yosemite and upgrade the other tools as well.

I don't know how to install Java etc, and so was wondering if there was a simpler method, for example is it possible to have FileBot watch a folder and rename a file when it gets dropped into that folder.. so I could therefore have Qbittorent send the completed file to that folder, and FileBot can rename the file and move it to a Rename Complete Folder

Or alternatively, I do use Hazel to move files into their respective folders at the moment, and so can I run a rename script on the file when Hazel grabs it? Hazel currently identifies the type of file based on rules, so could I use the renaming scripts
Movies : {n} ({y}) ; TV Shows {n}.{s00e00}.{t} and Anime {n}.S{(episode.season ? s : 1).pad(2)}E{e.pad(2)}.{t}

So for a Tv show I can insert a rule to call FileBot and run the rename based on the above XBMC naming script; would something like this be possible?

I guess I'd be easiest to just update your OS then. :D

:idea: You'll still need to filebot command line tools before you can do any kind of automated processing.

Hi,

You can mark this as solved, the issue was with outdated software! Ive updated to Yosemite, and installed the latest Quartz and Xcode and all this has run and compiled :)

Im having a quick go at getting this setup now :) so far no luck but Im sure its something small Ive done wrong but any help would be much appreciated,

What I've done so far is entered the below into Qbittorrent on the run the program upon completion,

filebot -script fn:amc --output "Macintosh HD/Users/qaizervisram/Movies and Tv Shows/Downloading/FileBot Process" --log-file amc.log --action copy --conflict override -non-strict --def music=y artwork=y subtitles=en excludeList=amc.txt "ut_kind=multi" "ut_dir=%f"

but nothing seems to be happening, am I supposed to download the script and save it on the laptop? Ive changed the save file to hard disk folder to /Users/qaizervisram/Movies and Tv Shows/Downloading/FileBot Process just to see what would happen, and it just saves this there without running the script, I had it saved in a different folder and Qbittorent saved it there, please excuse the silly question, but what am I doing wrong?

The first step is to start the terminal and run the command manually on some folder, and see what happens, and what the output says. ;)

PS: any path that starts with "Macintosh HD" is definitely horribly wrong :lol:

Hi there,

You were right the folder paths were wrong! I am running the test script (below) I corrected the file names and was getting an error that it couldn't find the amc.txt so i added that to the FileBotSorted folder (I copied your mac script saved it as a txt file) and now when I run it with and without the --action test command, the terminal doesn't show any errors but it looks like its waiting for an input? Im not sure?

Here's the below code I am using, please tell me what Im doing wrong?

Qaizer-Visrams-MacBook-Pro-2:~ qaizervisram$ filebot -script fn:amc --output "/Users/qaizervisram/Documents/FileBotSorted” --log-file amc.log --action copy -non-strict "/Users/qaizervisram/Documents/FileBotProcess" --def excludeList=amc.txt
>

sorry theres an typo there I saved your amc script is what I was trying to write :)

Is the issue not obvious?

Code: Select all

"/Users/qaizervisram/Documents/FileBotSorted”
How about now that I fixed it?

Code: Select all

"/Users/qaizervisram/Documents/FileBotSorted"
:idea: You now owe 5€ to my tip jar for wasting my time.

Re: brew not working

Hi there,

So hopefully my last silly question regarding filebot! Ive got the test script working exactly how I want, but for the qbitorrent script below, I’ve tried both options but nothing seems to happen,

#!/bin/bash
filebot -script fn:amc --output "/Users/qaizervisram/Documents/FileBotSorted" --log-file amc.log --action copy --conflict override -non-strict --def music=y subtitles=en artwork=y exludeList=amc.txt "%f"

filebot -script fn:amc --output "/Users/qaizervisram/Documents/FileBotSorted" --log-file amc.log --action copy --conflict override -non-strict --def music=y subtitles=en artwork=y exludeList=amc.txt "%f"

I'm pretty sure its something really silly that Im doing wrong but I can't figure it out,

Ive also tried changing the input so where Qbittorent saves the files should be the FileBotProcess folder, that didn't work so I tried the FileBotSorted folder (incase it needed to be the same folder for the output) then after looking at your examples you used the Downloads folder so thought that might be linked to the script so I set Qbitorrent to save downloaded files in /Users/qaizervisram/Downloads and even /Downloads folder but yeah nothing happens,

I saw this page (http://www.filebot.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=520) and converted the scripts into executables but you can’t call a shell script in qbitorrent, so I’m now out of ideas, any help would really be appreciated,

[Edit] I tried converting the test scripts (so the below) into shell scripts and running these with hazel in the folder I was watching, but these scripts also failed

filebot -script fn:amc --output "/Users/qaizervisram/Documents/FileBotSorted" --log-file amc.log --action copy -non-strict "/Users/qaizervisram/Documents/FileBotProcess" --def excludeList=amc.txt

#!/bin/bash
filebot -script fn:amc --output "/Users/qaizervisram/Documents/FileBotSorted" --log-file amc.log --action copy -non-strict "/Users/qaizervisram/Documents/FileBotProcess" --def excludeList=amc.txt

[Edit] Incase the issue was with Qbittorrent, I installed Transmission and followed this guide with the below code
http://www.filebot.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=520

#!/bin/bash
filebot -script fn:amc --output "/Users/qaizervisram/Documents/FileBotSorted" --log-file amc.log --action copy --conflict override -non-strict --def artwork=y "ut_dir=$TR_TORRENT_DIR/$TR_TORRENT_NAME" "ut_kind=multi" "ut_title=$TR_TORRENT_NAME"

I must be doing something wrong (the path again?) because this also didn't seem to execute and the downloaded torrent just downloaded to the downloads folder as per the original settings, please help :(

1.
Find a way to redirect standard output and standard error. You can make your own script that calls filebot and redirects output for testing.

Of course this test script of yours would start with writing "hello world" to a file making sure scripts are called at all first. ;)

2.
Find out what command is actually executed, i.e. how variables in the template cmdline call are replaced.
