The Mac standalone-versions used to be free, but now I notice that if I want the latest version of Filebot, I have to pay $5 on the Mac App Store; there is no standalone version available outside the Mac App Store. If I don't want to pay for Filebot, my only option for Mac is the command line version.
However, the Windows still appears to be free. I've got nothing against a developer charging for their software, but this feels like platform discrimination, unless I'm missing something here. Is there something different about the Mac App Store version compared to the Windows version? Or does the Windows version run in demo mode until you pay for it?
Just looking for some clarification.
Mac version no longer free, but Windows and Linux still free
Re: Mac version no longer free, but Windows and Linux still
Did you try the Homebrew Cask OS X version from the download page?

Isn't that just a CLI version?trumpy81 wrote:Did you try the Homebrew Cask OS X version from the download page?

No worries my dear friend. No "platform discrimination" here, just technical difficulties. Rest assured that FileBot will be a paid app on Windows as soon as possible.
I am happy to report that FileBot is already a paid app on Ubuntu Linux so you can rest assured in the knowledge that operating systems that are only used by a very small minority of users are treated equally.
If you have further concerns about "platform discrimination" then I'm happy remove the brew cask as well and add installer ads to the Windows version.
Your contribution to this project is utmost appreciated. For make benefit glorious nation of Kazakhstan.

Ha. Glad to hear I'll be contributing to the coffers of glorious Kazakhstan when I finally get around to running an HTPC that can support the latest version of Filebot. Maybe I'll just buy it now to show my support and win favored tourist status with the President.rednoah wrote:No worries my dear friend.
