[AniDB] Renaming Does Not Add Season

Post by IronicRhetoric »

Hey All,
Renaming anime files is not adding the season. Not sure what happened between yesterday and today, but I went to rename some files today (I used it yesterday just fine) and all of my presets were missing. At first I thought maybe my subscription had ended but it looks like I still have two more days. That clearly wasn't the isssue so I decided to check for an update. Not sure why there isn't a 'check for update' button, but whatever. I updated the App and while it solved another problem (under Rename -> Original Files it listed the entire root folder instead of just the name of the file), it did not solve my primary issue. Now I know anime doesn't have "seasons", but still for the past 3 years it has labeled the seasons correctly even when they have absolute numbering. Because I only had 3 or 4 Presets I decided to simply recreate them as I wasn't sure how to readd the presets from the APPDATA folder. I've attached a picture of my problem. Let me know if you need anything else to figure this out.

As you can see, even though the expression has {s00e00}, it's not outputting correctly, even in this case where I'm using a file I renamed yesterday.

 AniDB does not have the concept of season numbers. Some years ago, some older versions of FileBot automatically injected TMDB / TVDB information for bindings like {s00e00} and while this sometimes works, it's also very confusing when it doesn't work, or doesn't work correctly. (NOTE: Mixing AniDB series names / episode titles with TVDB SxE numbers, while being unaware of that fact, just wasn't a good idea. It's better to be explicit about what you're doing, so that you know what you're doing.)

 You'll want to use the Convert AniDB to TheTVDB SxE numbers Preset if you want to rename AniDB-numbered files to TVDB or TMDB standard SxE naming and numbering. Alternatively, you can use {db.TheTVDB.s00e00} or {db.TheMovieDB.s00e00} to explicitly inject {s00e00} numbers from another database.

 FileBot will notify you on startup every time there is an update. Alternatively, you can use System Information to check for updates.

 Original Files will display the complete file path with extension if you select Extension: Override in the settings. That is to clearly indicate that you're overwriting the entire file path including the file extension. If you have accidentally switched modes, then you'll want to click on Extension: Preserve to go back to the default mode. Restarting FileBot will also do the trick since this particular settings is explicitly not persisted.

 You can restore settings by clicking on Restore User Data and then selecting your backed up preferences.backup.xml file.

:?: When did you lose your settings? Can you reproduce the issue? What is the last-modified date on your preferences.backup.xml file? You can open the preferences.backup.xml file with a text editor to see its contents.

Thanks for the reply, but I must say, either this program worked extremely well for me or I've just been very lucky. I've never used any of the presets in the 3 years I've had this program, because I've always wanted to see the source and the video format. Using the example TV expression and adding the source and video expressions worked like a charm. I explicitly typed in what I wanted to see and the program spat it out. Is it a bug? Did I get lucky? I have no idea.

Is there any good reason the version number is hidden? I rarely turn off my computer or close Filebot so there was no notification until I uninstalled and reinstalled it.

Ahhh... I did click that option looking around to restore preferences.

Lost my settings today. There is a backup file, but it does nothing. After going into Groovy and selecting preferences.backup in the final dropdown it merely overwrote the backup file that was there. Fortunately, I made a copy on my desktop prior because I foresaw this happening. Last backup was today at 4:48PM, but I don't see anything useful. Everything in the backup file is in the picture below.

More recent releases require you to explicitly type "I want {s00e00} numbers from TheTVDB" or "I want {s00e00} numbers from TheMovieDB" to get exactly that:

Format: Select all

{n} - {db.TheTVDB.s00e00} - {t} {[vf, vc, ac]}
NOTE: {s00e00} will give you S00E00 or E00 depending on the Episode information at hand, consistent for all databases and episode order configurations / combinations, e.g. {s00e00} will also yield E00 numbers without season number for TVDB / TMDB episode information if Episode Order: Absolute is selected.

The version number is easily accessible. All the software I'm currently using has some kind of about / information dialog with the version information. FileBot is no different. Hiding unnecessary information makes sense to me. But you want to display version information, then that's fine too, it's just one click away. (NOTE: That said, the portable edition will display the version in the window title since you can run multiple versions from multiple portable folders at the same time.)

FileBot will only check for updates on startup, and prompt you to update at this time. If you click it away it will not prompt again until the next update is released. Checking for updates periodically is not planned. Typical FileBot users use FileBot and then close the application. If you wanna keep FileBot open for months that is of course possible but fairly untested. Presumably, your Windows PC will reboot once in a while during regular updates, so FileBot will necessarily restart at that time as well and check for updates. It's perfectly fine to only update once or twice per year for most users.

This is indeed an empty backup file. Unfortunately, not much you can do if you don't have an earlier version of that file. Making an explicit backup via the Export User Data button after you have created your presets is probably a good idea for the future just in case.

The backup file is notably only created when the application is closed, and only if there either is no backup file or if the existing backup file hasn't been updated in 30+ days. (NOTE: Newer revisions of FileBot increase this to 60+ days and refuse to write backup files <2 KB for good measure.)
