FileBot not finding a show actually on TMDB/AniDB

Post by Yuiel »

Hello! I just started using Filebot so I can properly tag my anime for Plex. So far it's going great with hardlinking (aside from a few hiccups of grouping seasons of different names into multiple numbered seasons, and AniDB setting the hardlink path as #/Media/Anime/ instead of #/Media/TV Shows/...)

But now I've hit a snag, I am trying to correctly rename a series called Kizumonogatari, and it keeps defaulting to Monogatari (the parent series it's under). However, I checked TMDB and Kizumonogatari is listed there as it's own thing, even a collection for just the 3 episodes. I then tried AniDB, as it is on there as well. AniDB actually shows Kizumonogatari as a selectable series, but when I choose it, it doesn't load anything. And i did try manually matching it, but TMDB shows it "Monogatari Season #" and not the actual name. I have tried restarting the program and also deleting the cache. Any help would be much appreciated!

:?: What are the file names you have?

:?: What is the TMDB Series ID you want?

 Kizumonogatari Collection is a collection of movies, and notably not a TV Series. If you have these three files then you need to use Movie Mode and organise them as movies.

e.g. Kizumonogatari Part 1: Tekketsu (2016)

Code: Select all

Movies/Kizumonogatari Part 1 - Tekketsu (2016) {tmdb-357786}/Kizumonogatari Part 1 - Tekketsu (2016)

:!: AniDB should work since it's listed as a series / episodes there. That said, if you're organising files for Plex then you must use and adhere to the database that you have configured in your Plex library settings.

1: The filenames are simply:
Kizumonogatari - 01
Kizumonogatari - 02
Kizumonogatari - 03

2: Selecting "Movie Mode" works by manually searching for it (after it fails to match), thank you!!! I for some reason didn't realize they were movies (should of guessed by the length).

3: AniDB does show Kizumonogatari, but selecting it, nothing happens. It has the loading circle on the top right just barely half a second than nothing populates.

4: Does that mean that if I use AniDB for SOME Shows (if TMDB doesn't recognize it but AniDB does), Plex won't recognize it if i have TMDB selected? For some series with multiple seasons, TMDB doesn't properly identify the sequential seasons and just keeps it under "Season 01" and i have to manually match every single episode, or AniDB just has it properly...except AniDB changes the main parent directory from "TV Shows" to "Anime". And every time a show has multiple seasons, TMDB just lists it under the name of the first season and gets rid of the additional name, ex; Full Metal Panic!, Full Metal Panic: Second Raid", TMDB gets rid of "Second Raid" and just has it as "Full Metal Panic!/Season 02/Episode#". And sometimes, especially when it involves Specials/OVA's, TMDB doesn't even recognize it at all, and I have to use AniDB/TMDB to properly match it. And actually, in the case of Monogatari, TMDB labels each season as "Monogatari" and not their actual names "Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari" etc etc. Just "Monogatari Season 01 and then Season 02" etc.

:!: Unfortunately, the file names you have are no good in this case: kizumonogatari 01 (and so on)

 In this case, I'd SHIFT-CLICK <TheMovieDB> (see FAQ #2) to force manual input and then type kizumonogatari part 1 (and so on) when prompted.

I see. Since the series is of type movie, but doesn't know that in advance, you might get a selection but the result is then ignored. You can disable this restriction. That said, if you're organising files for Plex that you cannot use AniDB anyway, so "fail-fast-and-fail-early" is a good thing here.

Yes. So imagine that Plex is a machine, that works fast, reliably, and - most importantly - predictably, based on simple rules. If you throw something unexpected into the machine, it'll at best not work (i.e. unmatched episodes) and at worst work in wrong and unexpected ways (i.e. mismatched episodes).

tl;dr if you select TMDB for your series library, but the series at hand does not have a TMDB series ID, then Plex fundamentally won't be able to what Plex does (i.e. match series / episodes, display series information, episode overviews, ratings, actors, posters, artwork, etc)
