Forgets Preset Each Time

Post by Ashkaan4 »

Every time I open the app, my only preset gets forgotten, so I have to set it again.

This is especially annoying because you can't set it until you have media loaded and when you set it, it tries to search for the media match when you've already got the match. It's a mess!

Can someone tell me how to set a preset as the default behavior?

:?: How did you install FileBot? Can you post System Information? What does the log say? See How to Request Help for details.

 Your settings are stored in a platform-dependent manner (see Q: Where is the application data folder? How do I backup my settings?) so the details may vary depending on how you have installed FileBot. In general, on macOS, your settings are stored in the ~/Library/Preferences/net.filebot.* files, so if your settings are lost when FileBot is not running, then that would suggest that something is deleting those files while FileBot is not running.

EDIT:

Just to confirm. We are talking about the FileBot ➔ Icon Presets feature, as opposed to perhaps custom formats, right?

Yes, it’s Presets. They don’t delete, so it’s not that. They are just not set when I open the app. I have to select it each time and then that causes more things to go wrong. How can I just set it as a default?

:?: What do you mean? Do you mean that your custom presets don't show up when you click on the Icon Presets button?

 Presets do not trigger automatically. You trigger a Preset by clicking on it, or by pressing the configured keyboard shortcut.

Oh, that’s the issue. I just want to open the app, put a file in the left side, add an episode on the right side and click rename.

I don’t want to have to select the preset each time. When I do, it erases the right side and attempts to search (which it usually gets wrong). Then I have to add the right side al over again.

:?: Well, that leads me to the question: Why use Presets when you don't actually want to use Presets? Presumably, there is some aspect of Presets that you do want? When you click on a Preset, many things happen, so I'd like to know, which of those things do you want and which of those things do you not want?

You can do that. We call it Manual Matching as opposed to automatic matching which happens when you click on a Preset or any of the Fetch Data actions.

:?: Please post screenshots so we can see what you're trying to do. I ask for the second time. Happy to ask for a third and forth time. Cause I really want to know what you see. Cause I really don't know what you're doing / trying to do. ;)

Hi, yes sorry!

Step 1: Open the app

It's not letting me paste a screenshot (or I don't understand how.. I usually just copy and paste into forums)

Step 2: Add the media on the left side

Step 3: Go to Episodes

Step 4: Paste the name of the show

Step 5: Choose the episode and click Send to > Rename

Step 6: Click Presets > Choose the only one (which is the default naming scheme that I want)

Suddenly, the work I did in Step 5 gets cleared and I have a popup that I have to close out of

Step 7: Choose the episode and click Send to > Rename

Step 8: Match

I just wish there was a way to rename my media faster.

Ashkaan4 wrote: 26 Aug 2024, 19:07 Step 6: Click Presets > Choose the only one (which is the default naming scheme that I want)
:?: Why though? What does this do? Do you perhaps click on a Preset just to set the default Episode Format? If that works, then it's a bug... You'll want to set the default Episode Format via Fetch Data ➔ Edit Format or Double-Click <New Names Item> ➔ Edit Format. See Video Tutorial: How do I organize files for Plex? for reference.

EDIT: If the custom format set in a Preset effects Episode objects loaded in via the Episodes tool, then that would be a bug, and not intended behaviour. I cannot reproduce this bug with the latest version of FileBot though. Are you using the latest version of FileBot? Please post System Information so that we can confirm which version of FileBot you are using.

EDIT 2: I played around with it and I can now see what you're doing. It "works" but it's a bug and not intended behaviour. We will fix that. FileBot should use the default Episode Format for Episode objects loaded in via the Episodes tool, and not whichever custom format lingers in memory from the last-used Preset.

 Depending on the use case at hand, you may be able to skip the Episodes tool. You can take a shortcut by starting on the right-hand side. If you click Episode Mode: TheMovieDB without any files loaded in on the left-hand side then FileBot will prompt you to enter the series name and then load the episode list in linear order right there. See Video Tutorial: How do I manually fix episode matches? for reference.

Ok, I think you're right. Perhaps the goal is to skip the Episodes tool. I just tested your suggestion above and this is a bit better.

Step 1: Open the app

Step 2: Add the media on the left side

Step 3: Go to Episodes

Step 4: Paste the name of the show

Step 5: Choose the episode ➔ Send to ➔ Rename

Step 6: Double-Click <New Names Item> ➔ Edit Format ➔ Use Format

Step 7: Match

Is there no way to just set the default naming scheme so I can skip Step 6?

This will permanently set the default Episode Format. You can therefore skip this step once you have already set your preferred format.

Oh! That solves my issue!

I couldn’t figure out how to permanently save this preference.

Thank you for the guidance!
